Menopause is a natural stage of life, but the years around it rarely feel simple. Around 1 in 2 Australian women report mild to moderate symptoms, and around 1 in 4 have symptoms severe enough to affect their daily activities [1].

Hot flushes and night sweats get most of the attention, yet the changes run deeper. Skin loses collagen, bone density falls, and sleep, mood and joints can all shift at the same time.

With more than 60 products in our menopause range, it's not always easy to know where to start. We've compared seven of the most relevant menopause supplements available through Mr Vitamins on ingredients, dose, TGA listing and what our customers say in their reviews, so you can make a confident and informed decision.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use. If symptoms persist, talk to your healthcare professional.

What Happens During Perimenopause and Menopause?

Menopause is your final menstrual period, confirmed once you've gone 12 months without one. In Australia the average age of menopause is 51, and it usually happens between 45 and 55 [1]. The lead-up, perimenopause, usually starts in your 40s and lasts between 2 and 10 years, around 4 to 6 years on average [2].

Commonly reported symptoms include hot flushes and night sweats, brain fog, trouble sleeping, joint and muscle pain, low mood, anxiety and dry or itchy skin [1]. Two of the biggest changes happen quietly. As much as 30% of skin collagen is lost in the first five years after menopause [3], and women lose up to 10% of their bone density over the same period [4].

Can Supplements Help With Menopause Symptoms?

Supplements are not a replacement for medical care. The Australasian Menopause Society notes that no complementary medicine is as effective as oestrogen therapy for menopausal symptoms [11], and the evidence varies a lot from one ingredient to the next.

Where supplements can earn a place is in targeted support: a well-studied herbal extract for hot flushes, the calcium and vitamin D your bones need after menopause, or collagen peptides and skin nutrients as your own collagen declines. The key is matching the ingredient to the symptom, at a dose that reflects the research.

What Makes a Good Menopause Supplement?

Menopause supplements vary more than most people realise, and the differences affect whether a product suits your symptoms at all. Before comparing specific products, here's what separates a well-made menopause supplement from an average one.

  1. Clear Australian regulatory status. Look for an AUST L number on the pack and check it on the TGA's ARTG register. Listed medicines can only contain pre-approved, low-risk ingredients, but they are not assessed for efficacy before sale, so read the indications to see what the product is permitted to claim.
  2. Ingredients matched to your symptoms. Hot flushes, sleep, bone health and skin changes respond to different ingredients. A product built for one won't necessarily help with another.
  3. Standardised extracts and research-aligned doses. Look for a named extract (such as ERr 731) or a stated dry-herb equivalent, and compare it with the amounts used in studies.
  4. Clear safety warnings. Black cohosh and chaste tree (vitex) carry specific label warnings in Australia. Quality products state these clearly.
  5. A routine you'll keep. The trials in this guide ran for 6 weeks to 12 months, so daily consistency matters more than any single dose.
  6. Compatibility with your medicines. If you use menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), the contraceptive pill or other medicines, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding a herbal product.

Every product in this guide was assessed against these criteria before being included: not just for what's on the label, but for how it's formulated, dosed and regulated.

How we selected these products: Our practitioner team reviewed the menopause range at Mr Vitamins for ingredient quality, research behind key actives, dose, TGA listing, format and value. Customer ratings and quotes come from reviews of each product on mrvitamins.com.au as at 22 October 2026. We only counted and quoted reviews that describe the product itself, and we left out wording that makes medical claims. Quotes are verbatim and trimmed for length, with spelling corrections shown in [square brackets]. Mr Vitamins is the retailer of every product featured in this guide and earns revenue when these products are sold. Live More You is Mr Vitamins' own brand. Comparing the Best Menopause Supplements Available in Australia

1. Live More You Complete Body Collagen (Top Pick)

Live More You is Mr Vitamins' own brand, and Complete Body Collagen is our top pick for the longer-term side of menopause: skin, bones, joints and connective tissue. Rather than one general collagen, each 17.5 g scoop combines four GELITA® Bioactive Collagen Peptides, each developed for a different tissue:

  • VERISOL® 2.5 g for skin, hair and nails
  • FORTIBONE® 5 g for bone
  • FORTIGEL® 5 g for cartilage and joints
  • TENDOFORTE® 5 g for tendons and ligaments

That matters because collagen and bone both decline after menopause. As much as 30% of skin collagen is lost in the first five years [3], and bone density can fall by up to 10% over the same period [4].

Two of these peptides have been studied in women at the same amounts found in a scoop. In a 12-month randomised controlled trial of 131 postmenopausal women with reduced bone density, 5 g a day of FORTIBONE® peptides was associated with higher bone mineral density at the spine and hip (femoral neck) than placebo [5]. In an 8-week trial of 69 women aged 35 to 55, 2.5 g a day of VERISOL® peptides improved skin elasticity compared with placebo, with more noticeable results in women over 50 [6]. Neither study tested this blend itself, and the bone study was part-funded by GELITA, which makes the peptides.

Mix one scoop (17.5 g) daily into 250 mL of hot or cold liquid, such as water, coffee, tea or a smoothie. It's designed to be flavour-free and can be taken before or after exercise.

What customers say: ★★★★☆ 4.3 out of 5 from 9 reviews

"It blends in well with my morning coffee, no taste, just a nice creamy texture."

Kimberley L. · Customer review

"Have you seen the size of the scoop inside? It's huge!"

Kit C. · Verified Buyer

"Very convenient complete product that's easy to use."

Jacqueline H. · Customer review

Not everyone takes to it straight away. One reviewer returned it because she "could not stomach the taste" in water or sprinkled over porridge. Most reviewers stir it into coffee or warm water, where it dissolves well.

Key details: 455 g powder | 17.5 g per scoop (26 serves) | VERISOL® 2.5 g, FORTIBONE® 5 g, FORTIGEL® 5 g, TENDOFORTE® 5 g per serve | Bovine collagen, not suitable for vegetarians or vegans | AUST L 530463 | Mr Vitamins house brand

2. Fusion Health Menopause

Fusion Health Menopause is the most reviewed formula in our menopause range, and it brings seven herbs together in one capsule. Black cohosh is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to relieve many common menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes, disturbed sleep, irritability, mood swings and mild rheumatic aches and pains. It sits alongside dong quai, traditionally used in Chinese medicine to relieve menopausal symptoms, plus vitex, shatavari, anemarrhena, horny goat weed and curculigo.

Each capsule provides black cohosh extract equivalent to 400 mg of dry rhizome, with the other herbs ranging from 250 mg (vitex) to 850 mg (anemarrhena) dry equivalent. Adults take 2 capsules twice a day, or as professionally advised.

It's worth knowing that research on black cohosh is mixed. A Cochrane review of 16 trials involving 2,027 women found insufficient evidence that black cohosh relieves menopausal symptoms [7]. Many women still choose it for its long history of traditional use, and this formula pairs it with herbs from Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions.

Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Vitex may affect hormones and medicines such as oral contraceptives. In very rare cases black cohosh has been associated with liver failure, so stop taking it and see your doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, nausea, vomiting, unusual tiredness, weakness, abdominal pain or loss of appetite.

3. Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief

Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief is a four-herb tablet built around hot flushes, sweating and sleep. Sage reduces the symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes, and is traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to decrease excessive perspiration. Shatavari is traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to relieve hot flushes associated with menopause, while ziziphus is traditionally used in Chinese medicine to reduce spontaneous sweating, calm the spirit and relieve sleeplessness.

Each tablet contains sage leaf extract equivalent to 1.5 g of dry leaf, ziziphus seed extract equivalent to 1.5 g of dry seed, shatavari root extract equivalent to 1.5 g of dry root and chaste tree (vitex) fruit extract equivalent to 250 mg of dry fruit. Adults take 1 tablet twice daily with food, so a 60-tablet pack lasts a month.

It's a good fit if sweating and broken sleep are your main concerns and you'd like a simple two-tablet routine. Chaste tree may affect hormones and medicines such as oral contraceptives, so speak with your health professional first if you use them.

4. Metagenics Estrovera (Practitioner Pick)

Estrovera is a practitioner-only product built on a single, well-researched extract: ERr 731, a standardised extract of Rheum rhaponticum (Siberian rhubarb) root. Each small enteric-coated tablet contains 4 mg of extract, derived from 84 mg of dry root, taken once a day with food.

Estrovera relieves the symptoms of menopause, including hot flushes, irritability and disturbed sleep, and relieves vaginal dryness. It also supports healthy libido and sexual function in perimenopausal women.

ERr 731 has one of the stronger research bases among herbal menopause ingredients. A 2024 meta-analysis of four randomised controlled trials, involving 390 women, found significantly lower Menopause Rating Scale scores after 12 weeks compared with control [8]. The authors noted differences between the studies and called for further research.

Because it's practitioner-only, a qualified healthcare practitioner will confirm it suits you before you start. It's a strong option if you want a single-ingredient, once-daily tablet and a practitioner involved in your menopause plan. It contains Rheum rhaponticum and may have a laxative effect, and it is for adult women only.

Key details: 30 or 90 enteric-coated mini tablets | ERr 731 Rheum rhaponticum extract 4 mg | 1 tablet daily with food | Practitioner-only | AUST L 461734

5. Herbs of Gold Calcium K2 with D3

Bone health is one of the most important, and least visible, parts of menopause. Calcium and vitamin D help to maintain bone health by supporting bone density and strength in post-menopausal women, and this formula pairs both with vitamin K2.

Each tablet provides 250 mg of elemental calcium from two forms, Aquamin (from mineralised seaweed) and calcium citrate, plus 15 micrograms of vitamin K2 as menaquinone 7 and 333 IU of vitamin D3. Adults and children over 12 take 1 tablet two to three times daily with food, which gives 500 to 750 mg of calcium a day.

The Better Health Channel suggests aiming for about 1,300 mg of calcium a day [4], so a supplement works best alongside calcium-rich foods. For more on calcium's wider role, read There's More to Calcium Than Strong Bones.

What customers say: ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 from 9 reviews

"Very happy with them been on it for years..."

Christine G. · Verified Buyer

"A calcium that shows signs of working well so far."

G. M. · Verified Buyer

Key details: 90 or 180 tablets | 250 mg elemental calcium per tablet | Vitamin K2 (MK-7) 15 mcg and vitamin D3 333 IU per tablet | 1 tablet two to three times daily with food | AUST L 383877

6. Herbs of Gold Evening Primrose Oil

Dry or itchy skin is one of the commonly reported symptoms of menopause [1]. Herbs of Gold Evening Primrose Oil relieves skin dryness and maintains skin hydration, with 1000 mg of cold-pressed evening primrose oil providing 100 mg of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) in each capsule.

Evening primrose oil is also a popular choice for hot flushes, but the evidence there is limited. In a 6-week trial of 56 women, it reduced the severity of hot flushes more than placebo, but not how often they happened [10], and the Australasian Menopause Society notes there is no evidence that it is effective for menopausal symptoms [11]. We've included it here for skin, not hot flushes.

Adults take 1 to 2 capsules three times a day with food, and the 200-capsule pack makes it one of the most affordable options in this guide. Learn more in Evening Primrose Oil: Benefits, Evidence and Safety or browse our Evening Primrose Oil for Menopause range.

What customers say: ★★★★★ 4.7 out of 5 from 3 reviews

"I can feel the difference already after taking them for 3 weeks, would recommend"

Jodie S. · Verified Buyer

Key details: 200 capsules | 1000 mg evening primrose oil (100 mg GLA) per capsule | 1 to 2 capsules three times daily with food | AUST L 406604

7. Natures Sunshine Sage

If excessive sweating is your main concern and you prefer a single herb, Natures Sunshine Sage keeps things simple. Each capsule contains 400 mg of sage (Salvia officinalis) leaf powder, traditionally used to relieve excessive sweating, including the perspiration that can come with menopausal hot flushes.

Sage has some early research behind it. In an open 8-week study of 71 postmenopausal women, a once-daily fresh sage tablet was linked with a 50% drop in hot flush scores at 4 weeks and 64% at 8 weeks [9]. The study had no placebo group and used a fresh-leaf preparation rather than dried leaf powder, so the results are preliminary.

Follow the directions on the label. Sage is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Find out more about this everyday herb in Sage: The Common Herb That Can Improve Memory.

What customers say: ★★★★★ 5.0 out of 5 from 1 review

Taking Menopause Supplements With MHT or Other Medicines

Some herbs act on hormone pathways or interact with medicines. Chaste tree (vitex) may affect hormones and medicines such as the oral contraceptive pill, which matters in perimenopause, when contraception should still be considered until 12 months after your final period [1]. Black cohosh carries a rare liver warning. If you use menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) or any prescription medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding a herbal supplement.

Menopause Supplements by Symptom

Menopause rarely brings one symptom at a time. Use this section to match ingredients to what's bothering you most, then explore our in-depth guides.

Hot flushes and night sweats

Black cohosh, sage, shatavari and ERr 731 are the ingredients most often chosen for hot flushes. Of these, ERr 731 has a meta-analysis of randomised trials behind it [8], while results for black cohosh are mixed [7] and sage research is still early [9]. Products in this guide: Fusion Health Menopause, Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief, Metagenics Estrovera and Natures Sunshine Sage. To understand why hot flushes so often wake you at night, read The Hormone Hot Flush Loop: Why You Keep Waking Up at Night.

Sleep, mood and brain fog

Trouble sleeping, low mood, anxiety and brain fog are commonly reported from perimenopause onwards [2]. Ziziphus, in Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief, is traditionally used to relieve sleeplessness, black cohosh is traditionally used for disturbed sleep, irritability and mood swings, and Estrovera relieves irritability and disturbed sleep. For broader support, read Mood, Stress & Energy During Menopause and Best Sleep Support Supplements, or browse Stress & Mood Supplements.

Bone health after menopause

Bone density can fall by up to 10% in the first five years after menopause [4], which makes calcium and vitamin D the foundation of bone support. Products in this guide: Herbs of Gold Calcium K2 with D3, and Live More You Complete Body Collagen, which includes the FORTIBONE® peptides studied in postmenopausal women [5]. Weight-bearing and resistance exercise matter too [4], so see Weight Training for Menopause and browse Supplements for Bones & Joints.

Skin and joint changes

Skin collagen loss is closely linked to falling oestrogen after menopause [3], and joint and muscle pain is one of the commonly reported symptoms [1]. Products in this guide: Live More You Complete Body Collagen for skin, cartilage, tendons and ligaments, and Herbs of Gold Evening Primrose Oil for dry skin. To compare collagen sources, read Vegan, Marine & Bovine Collagen: What's the Difference? or browse Collagen Powder & Supplements.

Gut health, bloating and weight

Many women notice changes in digestion and where they carry weight, including increased belly fat [1]. None of the products in this guide target these changes, so start with Gut Health and Menopause: How Your Microbiome Affects Hormones, Weight and Wellbeing, Menopause Weight Balance & Gut Health and our Supplements for Menopause Bloating range.

Perimenopause

Symptoms often begin years before your final period [2]. Many of the products in this guide can be used in perimenopause, and Estrovera supports healthy libido and sexual function in perimenopausal women. If you're still taking the contraceptive pill, check with your health professional before choosing a product with chaste tree (vitex). For more on this stage, read Perimenopause, Hormones and Stress: What's Actually Happening.

How to Choose the Right Menopause Supplement for You

  • Start with your main symptom
    • Hot flushes respond to different ingredients than bone or skin changes
    • If you have several symptoms, a combined formula or a practitioner consult can help you prioritise
  • Check the TGA listing
    • Look for the AUST L number on the label and verify it on the TGA's ARTG register
    • Read the indications, which tell you what the product is permitted to claim
  • Look for research-aligned ingredients and doses
    • Named extracts such as ERr 731, and stated dry-herb equivalents, make products easier to compare
  • Give it time
    • Allow 8 to 12 weeks at the label dose before judging a herbal product
    • Bone and skin support is a long-term commitment
  • Check for interactions
    • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you use MHT, the contraceptive pill or any prescription medicine
  • Buy from trusted Australian retailers
    • Stick with established Australian stores like Mr Vitamins
    • Avoid unknown or unverified international sources
  • Compare cost per day, not headline price
    • Larger packs and powders often work out cheaper per day

Choosing a Menopause Supplement

The best menopause supplement depends on what you're managing. Live More You Complete Body Collagen is our top pick for the skin, bone and joint changes that continue after menopause, while Fusion Health Menopause, Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief and Natures Sunshine Sage offer traditional herbal support for hot flushes and sweating. Metagenics Estrovera brings a well-researched single extract under practitioner guidance, and Herbs of Gold Calcium K2 with D3 and Evening Primrose Oil cover bone health and dry skin. Match the ingredient to your symptom, check the AUST L number, give it 8 to 12 weeks, and talk to your health professional if symptoms persist.

Menopause Supplement FAQs

Do menopause supplements work?

Some do, for some symptoms. The evidence is strongest for specific ingredients matched to specific symptoms, such as the ERr 731 rhubarb extract for menopausal symptoms [8] and calcium with vitamin D for bone health after menopause. Evidence for others, including black cohosh, is mixed [7]. No complementary medicine is as effective as oestrogen therapy for menopausal symptoms [11], so speak to your GP if symptoms are affecting your daily life.

What is the best menopause supplement in Australia?

There isn't one best supplement for everyone, because the right choice depends on your main symptoms. Our top pick is Live More You Complete Body Collagen for skin, bone and joint support, while Fusion Health Menopause, Herbs of Gold Menopause Relief and Metagenics Estrovera target symptoms such as hot flushes and disturbed sleep.

Can you take menopause supplements with HRT?

Speak with your doctor first. Some herbs act on hormone pathways, and chaste tree (vitex) may affect hormones and medicines such as oral contraceptives. Your doctor or pharmacist can check how any supplement fits with your menopausal hormone therapy (MHT).

Can you take menopause supplements during perimenopause?

Many menopause supplements can be used during perimenopause, and Estrovera supports healthy libido and sexual function in perimenopausal women. If you're still taking the contraceptive pill, check with your health professional before choosing a product that contains chaste tree (vitex).

How long do menopause supplements take to work?

The trials in this guide measured changes in hot flushes and other symptoms after 4 to 12 weeks [8] [9], and changes in bone density after 12 months [5]. Give a product 8 to 12 weeks at the label dose before judging it, and talk to your health professional if symptoms persist or worsen.

Does collagen help with menopause?

Collagen won't relieve hot flushes, but it can fit the longer-term changes of menopause. As much as 30% of skin collagen is lost in the first five years after menopause [3], and specific collagen peptides have been studied for skin elasticity [6] and for bone density in postmenopausal women [5]. Live More You Complete Body Collagen combines four of these peptide types in one daily scoop.

Are menopause supplements safe?

Listed medicines can only contain pre-approved, low-risk ingredients, but individual safety still depends on you. Black cohosh has been associated with liver failure in very rare cases, chaste tree may affect hormones and some medicines, and sage is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Always read the label, and check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take other medicines or have a health condition.

What vitamins should I take during menopause?

Calcium and vitamin D are the key nutrients for bone health after menopause, when bone density can fall by up to 10% in the first five years [4]. Some women also choose vitamin K2 alongside calcium. A simple blood test can check your vitamin D levels, and your GP can advise whether you need a supplement.
