The 3 Common Types of Collagen Supplements
Collagen gives your skin, bones, tendons and cartilage (the cushion in your joints) their shape and strength.[1] Most supplements use collagen peptides, which are short chains of collagen that dissolve in a drink. Where the collagen comes from sets the type, the allergens on the label and the price.
1. Marine Collagen
Marine collagen comes from fish skin and scales. It is almost all type I collagen, the type that makes up most of your skin.[2] More than half the skin studies in the largest review used fish collagen.[3] In our range you will find marine powders from NutraViva and Morlife, sachets from Vida Glow and capsules from Herbs of Gold.
- Best for: anyone who does not eat beef, anyone who wants a small serve with no taste, and skin goals. Most skin studies used 2.5 g to 5 g a day.
- Not for: anyone with a fish allergy, vegetarians and vegans. It is fish, not shellfish, but check the "may contain" line.
- Good to know: "smaller peptides" and "better absorbed" are marketing lines. Peptide size depends mostly on processing, not on the animal.[2] Marine costs two to four times more per gram than bovine, so pay the extra if you need fish rather than beef.
2. Bovine Collagen
Bovine collagen comes from cattle hide and bone and gives you types I and III.[2] It is the workhorse of the range and usually the best value per gram. Chief Grass-Fed Collagen Protein Powder, NutraViva NesProteins Collagen Hydrolysate, Gelatin Health and Natures Sunshine sell plain bovine peptides by the tub. The joint, bone and muscle studies used 5 g to 15 g a day of bovine peptides. A bovine powder gets you there for the least money.
- Best for: 10 g or more a day, shoppers on a budget, and anyone who wants a single ingredient.
- Not for: vegetarians, vegans and anyone who avoids beef. Halal-certified options are available.
- Good to know: Caruso's, Nutra Organics, ATP Science and Gelatin Health use bovine versions of the study peptides Verisol (skin and nails) and Fortigel (joints). The skin studies used a pig-collagen Verisol. The bone and tendon peptides, Fortibone and Tendoforte, are not in our public range.
3. Plant-Based "Vegan Collagen"
Plants do not make collagen, so vegan collagen products contain no collagen at all. They are collagen builders: a mix of amino acids (the building blocks of protein), vitamin C, silica and zinc. Your body uses these to make its own collagen. Qsilica Vegan Collagen Powder and capsules use an amino acid mix called Vollagen. There is no good evidence that these blends match a real collagen powder, so think of them as a vegan nutrient top-up.
- Best for: vegans and vegetarians, and anyone allergic to both fish and beef.
- Good to know: check the vitamin C per serve. Vitamin C has the clearest evidence for helping your body make collagen.[4, 5]
Collagen Types I, II and III Explained
Your body makes at least 28 kinds of collagen, and supplements focus on three.[1]
- Type I: about 90% of your collagen, in skin, bone, tendons and ligaments. Marine and bovine powders are mostly type I.
- Type II: the main collagen in joint cartilage, from chicken or fish cartilage. Micronutrition Cartidyss Plus is our type II product, a hydrolysed fish cartilage collagen.
- Type III: sits with type I in skin, blood vessels and organs. Bovine powders give you both.
Collagen Peptides, Hydrolysate, Gelatin and Undenatured Collagen
Four terms you will see on packs:
- Hydrolysed collagen, collagen peptides and collagen hydrolysate: three names for the same thing. The collagen is cut into short chains called peptides that dissolve in hot or cold drinks. Almost every study used this form.
- Gelatin: collagen that is only partly broken down. It sets when it cools, which is why it suits jelly and gummies. One tendon study used 15 g of gelatin with vitamin C.[6]
- Undenatured type II collagen: whole chicken cartilage collagen, used overseas at a tiny 40 mg dose and working in a different way from peptides. Australian listed medicines may hold no more than 40 mg a day of it.[7] We do not currently stock an undenatured type II product.
- Bone broth: a food made by simmering bones. It contains gelatin, but the pack rarely says how much, so enjoy it as a savoury drink, not a measured dose.
Who Is Collagen For? Match the Type to Your Goal
Start with your goal. The table shows the dose each study used and who took part. The studies used named brands of peptides, listed in the last column, so treat the doses as a guide rather than a promise.
| Your goal | What the studies used | Who was studied | Look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skin firmness, hydration and elasticity | Under 1 g to 12 g a day for 8 to 12 weeks; most studies 2.5 g to 5 g | Mostly women aged 35 to 65 | Marine or bovine peptides; Verisol blends; an AUST L tablet or powder listed for skin |
| Brittle nails | 2.5 g a day for 24 weeks | 25 adults with brittle nails, mostly women | Verisol powders such as Caruso's Total Beauty |
| Mild joint aches and stiffness | 5 g to 10 g a day for 12 to 24 weeks | Active young adults; athletes; adults over 50 with joint pain | Fortigel powders such as Caruso's Total Joint (the one listed medicine for mild joint symptoms), or plain bovine peptides |
| Bone density after menopause | 5 g a day for 12 months | Women past menopause, average age 64 | A bovine peptide powder at 5 g a day; the study used Fortibone, which we do not stock |
| Muscle and strength in later life | 15 g a day with weights training three times a week for 12 weeks | Men aged about 72 with low muscle mass | A bovine peptide powder at 15 g a day; the study used Bodybalance |
| Tendons and ligaments in sport | 15 g of gelatin with vitamin C an hour before training; the AIS suggests about 20 g | Eight healthy young men; one small early study in adults with Achilles pain | Bovine peptides or gelatin plus a vitamin C source |
| Gut comfort | 20 g a day for 8 weeks in one study with no placebo group | 14 women with gut symptoms who finished the study | Not enough evidence to guide a choice; ask a practitioner |
Men can take collagen at the same doses as women. The muscle and tendon studies were mostly in men, while most skin studies were in women. Skin collagen falls steadily through adult life and faster after menopause, which is why many women over 40 add it.[8, 9] If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or buying for a child, speak with a health professional first.
Key Benefits of Collagen Supplements
A handful of collagen products are listed medicines with an AUST L number. Only those may carry claims the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) permits, which the TGA calls indications. These are the listed products in our range and what each is listed for:
- Skin firmness and elasticity: Caruso's Total Beauty Collagen Powder, Swisse Beauty Collagen Glow, Swisse Beauty Collagen + Hyaluronic Acid Booster and Micronutrition Cartidyss Plus.
- Skin hydration and health: Cartidyss Plus and the Swisse booster are listed to help increase skin hydration. The four products above and Spring Leaf Premium Inner Beauty Collagen 6-In-1 Advanced are listed to maintain skin health.
- Nails and hair: Caruso's Total Beauty is listed to help reduce nail brittleness, splitting and chipping. Caruso's Total Beauty, Spring Leaf and Cartidyss Plus are listed to maintain hair health and nail strength.
- Mild joint aches and cartilage: Caruso's Total Joint Collagen Powder is listed to help maintain joint cartilage health and mobility, and to help relieve mild joint pain, aches and stiffness associated with mild osteoarthritis.
- Bone and connective tissue: Caruso's Total Joint is listed to support bone health (from its manganese and boron). Both Caruso's powders and Cartidyss Plus are listed to support connective tissue health.
- Collagen formation: all of the above are listed to support it, as is the vitamin C in Healthy Care Beauty Collagen Bioactive.
Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
Everything else in the range is a food or sports food. Any claim on those packs is a food claim made by the maker, not a TGA indication, but they still have practical benefits:
- More collagen for less: a plain bovine powder gives 10 g to 17 g a serve for about $1 to $2.60.
- Easy to use: hydrolysed powders dissolve in hot or cold drinks and food without changing the taste.
- An easy habit: stir a serve into your morning coffee, smoothie or porridge and you are done for the day.
- Extra protein: a 10 g serve adds about 9 g of protein. Collagen has none of the amino acid tryptophan, so it does not replace meat, dairy, eggs or legumes.[10]
- A choice for most diets: beef-free marine options, halal-certified bovine options and vegan collagen builders.
Does Collagen Work? What the Research Shows
Most collagen studies were funded by the companies that make the peptides. So each result below gives the dose, how long it ran and who paid, alongside the large reviews that pool many studies. Most of these studies compared collagen with a placebo, a dummy product with no collagen in it. Collagen supplements do not treat or prevent any disease.
Skin
- Hydration and elasticity: a 2023 review pooled 26 placebo-controlled studies with 1,721 people. Hydrolysed collagen improved skin hydration and elasticity (how well skin springs back), with bigger gains after 8 weeks or more. A Taipei hospital funded it.[3] A 2021 review of 19 studies (1,125 people, 95% women) agreed, and found fewer wrinkles too.[11]
- Small doses: 69 women aged 35 to 55 took 2.5 g or 5 g a day of Verisol, or a placebo, for 8 weeks. Skin elasticity improved by about 7% compared with placebo, and 5 g was no better than 2.5 g.[12] In 114 women aged 45 to 65, the same dose cut eye wrinkle volume by about 20% compared with placebo.[13] Both studies used a pig-collagen Verisol supplied by its maker, Gelita.
- What it means for you: for skin, 2.5 g a day for at least 8 weeks is where the evidence sits. Wrinkle results come from studies, not labels. No listed medicine in Australia may claim to reduce wrinkles.[14]
Joints
- Knee discomfort in active people: 139 adults aged 18 to 30 took 5 g a day of Fortigel or a placebo for 12 weeks. Knee pain during activity fell more in the collagen group. Gelita, which makes Fortigel, funded the study.[15] A Penn State study gave 147 athletes 10 g a day for 24 weeks. Pain at rest and when walking improved compared with placebo, though only 97 could be assessed. Gelita sponsored it.[16]
- Ongoing joint pain: a 2019 review from a Mexican university pooled placebo-controlled studies in adults with long-term knee and hip pain. Collagen improved total joint scores and stiffness, but not the pain and function scores on their own.[17]
- What it means for you: collagen may help with mild joint aches and stiffness. Joint pain that lasts needs a doctor, and collagen supplements do not treat joint disease.
Bone
- After menopause: 131 women past menopause (average age 64) with lower bone density took 5 g a day of Fortibone or a placebo for 12 months. Bone density scores at the spine and hip improved compared with placebo. Gelita part-funded the study.[18]
- What it means for you: this is one study of one branded peptide that we do not stock. Low bone density needs a doctor's care, and collagen supplements do not treat or prevent any disease. Healthy Bones Australia advises adults over 65 to get 1 g to 1.5 g of protein per kilogram of body weight a day. It says protein supplements need a health professional's guidance.[19]
Muscle and Strength
- Older men: 53 men aged about 72 with low muscle mass did weights training for 12 weeks. Half took 15 g a day of collagen and half a placebo. The collagen group gained 4.2 kg of lean body weight (weight that is not fat) against 2.9 kg, and more leg strength. Gelita supplied the product and paid participant costs.[20]
- The wider picture: a 2021 review of 15 studies found the clearest benefit was for joint pain and function. It noted that 13 of the 15 studies were commercially funded.[21]
- What it means for you: collagen was only tested alongside training. It has no tryptophan, so whey, dairy, eggs, meat and legumes still matter.[10]
Tendons and Ligaments
- Making collagen: eight healthy men took 15 g of gelatin with 48 mg of vitamin C an hour before six minutes of skipping. A blood marker of collagen production roughly doubled compared with placebo. The US National Institute on Aging, UC Davis and the Australian Institute of Sport funded the study.[6]
- Achilles pain: 20 people took 5 g a day of Tendoforte or a placebo alongside calf exercises. Symptom scores rose more in the first three months on collagen. But the gap between collagen and placebo was too small to be sure it was real, and it was a small early study. Gelita funded it, and it ran at the Australian Institute of Sport.[22]
- What it means for you: the tendon data are small and short. The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) rates collagen as Group B, meaning the evidence is emerging or mixed. It suggests about 20 g with vitamin C 40 to 60 minutes before training, as an add-on to rehab.[23]
Nails, Hair and Gut
- Nails: 25 people took 2.5 g a day of Verisol for 24 weeks. Nail growth rose 12% and broken nails fell 42%, but there was no placebo group, and two authors work at the Collagen Research Institute.[24]
- Hair: there is no good placebo-controlled evidence for collagen on its own in hair loss. Harvard Health says hardly any evidence supports collagen for hair and nails.[25]
- Gut: one 8-week study gave 20 g a day of Peptan to women with gut symptoms such as bloating. Thirteen of the 14 who finished reported fewer symptoms, but 26 of the 40 starters dropped out and there was no placebo group. Rousselot, which makes Peptan, funded it.[26] That is too thin to recommend collagen for the gut.
How Much Collagen per Day? Doses by Goal
No health authority sets a daily amount for collagen, because it is not an essential nutrient. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reviewed collagen claims for joints in 2011 and skin in 2013 and found that cause and effect had not been established.[27, 28] Harvard Health says there is not yet enough proof.[25] So the practical guide is the dose each study used:
| Goal | Dose the studies used | How long | Form |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skin | Under 1 g to 12 g a day (most studies 2.5 g to 5 g) | 8 to 12 weeks | Hydrolysed peptides, fish or bovine |
| Nails | 2.5 g a day | 24 weeks | Verisol peptides |
| Mild joint discomfort | 5 g to 10 g a day | 12 to 24 weeks | Hydrolysed peptides (Fortigel in one study) |
| Bone density after menopause | 5 g a day | 12 months | A specific bovine peptide (Fortibone), not stocked |
| Muscle with training | 15 g a day | 12 weeks | A specific bovine peptide (Bodybalance) |
| Tendons in sport | 15 g with vitamin C in the study; the AIS suggests about 20 g | 40 to 60 minutes before training | Gelatin or hydrolysed peptides |
- What the labels say: in-stock packs direct anything from under 1 g a day (capsules, gummies and coffees) to about 20 g (plain powders and protein waters). Follow your pack and do not exceed its directions.
- When to take it: most skin, joint, bone and muscle studies had people take collagen once a day, so pick a time you will remember. For tendons, the AIS suggests 40 to 60 minutes before training.[23]
- More is not better: 5 g did no better than 2.5 g for skin,[12] and there is no good evidence of extra benefit above 15 g.
- Protein context: Australian adults need about 0.75 g (women) to 0.84 g (men) of protein per kilogram of body weight a day, rising after 70.[29] A 10 g collagen serve counts towards that, but it is not a complete protein.[10]
- Food first: your body builds collagen from protein foods plus vitamin C, zinc and copper. Vitamin C in food carries an approved claim for normal collagen formation and skin function.[4, 5]
Collagen Powder vs Tablets, Capsules, Gummies and Liquids: Cost per Serve
Tub prices are the wrong number to compare. What matters is the cost of each gram of collagen, because the studies used 2.5 g to 15 g a day. The table does the maths for every in-stock format at 23 October 2026 prices. A plain bovine powder starts at about 50 cents a serve.
| Format | Collagen a serve | Cost a serve | Cost per 10 g collagen | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unflavoured bovine powder | 6 g to 17 g | $0.50 to $2.60 | $0.90 to $3.10 | Reaching 10 g or more a day at the lowest cost |
| Collagen protein water (sports food) | 20 g to 22 g | $2.45 to $2.55 | $1.15 to $1.30 | A flavoured post-training drink with the biggest serve |
| Flavoured beauty and joint blends | 2.5 g to 12 g | $1.10 to $2.30 | $1.20 to $5.60 | Study-matched peptides plus vitamin C, zinc or silica |
| Marine powder | 1.8 g to 7.5 g | $1.35 to $2.70 | $2.70 to $9.00 | Small serves with no taste; beef-free |
| Marine sachets | 2.7 g to 3 g | $1.70 to $2.00 | $5.80 to $7.10 | Travel and work; no scoop needed |
| Tablets (AUST L) | 1 g to 2.5 g a day | $0.30 to $2.00 a day | $3.10 to $8.00 | A listed skin indication in a tablet |
| Gummies | 1 g a day | $0.80 a day | $8.00 | People who will not take powders or pills |
| Liquid shots | 5 g | $4.60 | $9.20 | A ready-made daily shot |
| Capsules | 0.25 g to 0.5 g each | $0.65 to $2.30 a day | $13 to $37 | Convenience at small doses |
| Collagen coffee, lattes and hot chocolate | 0.75 g to 3 g | $0.75 to $2.10 | $4.80 to $16 | A small top-up in a drink you already make |
| Bars, mousse and cans | 8 g to 20 g | $3.95 to $6.95 each | $2.30 to $7.50 | Snacks and protein on the go |
- Capsules rarely reach study doses. Each holds 0.25 g to 0.5 g, so matching 2.5 g to 10 g would take 5 to 25 capsules a day. Capsules suit a small daily top-up.
- Marine costs two to four times more per gram than bovine. Pay it if you need fish rather than beef, not for absorption claims.
- Check grams of collagen, not scoop size. A 5 g scoop of a beauty blend may hold 2.5 g of collagen. A 10 g scoop of plain powder is almost all collagen.
Collagen Side Effects and Who Should Check First
Collagen is a food protein, but no supplement suits everyone. Check with a professional first if any of these apply to you.
- Allergies: marine collagen contains fish and bovine collagen comes from beef. Some products are packed alongside shellfish, dairy, soy or nuts, so read the "may contain" line.
- Kidney disease, gout or a low-protein diet: 10 g to 20 g of collagen is a real protein load. Harvard Health advises people with gout or on protein restriction not to use it,[25] so ask your doctor or dietitian first.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: collagen has not been well studied in pregnancy, so ask your doctor, midwife or pharmacist. Sports-food powders are not for pregnant women.[30]
- Children: most products are for adults, and sports foods are not for children under 15.[30]
- Medicines and hormone replacement therapy (HRT): collagen has no known effect on hormone therapy. But blends can contain other active ingredients, and one Swisse tablet carries a warfarin warning. Ask your pharmacist if you take regular medicines.
- Weight: a 10 g serve is about 150 to 170 kJ (36 to 40 calories), so it will not cause weight gain on its own. The evidence that it helps weight loss is weak.
If you notice a rash, swelling or trouble breathing after taking collagen, stop and seek medical help.
Is Collagen Legal in Australia? How to Read the Label
Yes. Collagen is sold in Australia in three ways, and the label tells you which one you are holding.
- Food: most collagen powders, coffees, bars and broths are foods. Collagen has no pre-approved health claim in the Food Standards Code. A company may make its own general claim only if it holds evidence and has notified Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). FSANZ does not check those claims.[5, 31] Foods may never claim to treat or prevent a disease.
- Formulated supplementary sports food: protein waters and some powders are sold this way. They must carry the statement "Not suitable for children under 15 years of age or pregnant women: Should only be used under medical or dietetic supervision" and may not claim health effects.[30] A sports-food label is not a TGA listing.
- Listed medicine (AUST L): a few collagen tablets, capsules and powders carry an AUST L number. That means the product is on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods and may carry only permitted indications. Hydrolysed collagen is a permitted active ingredient, while plain "collagen" is permitted only as an inactive ingredient.[7] The TGA does not check listed medicines one by one before they go on the register. An AUST L number is not proof that a product works.[32]
Five things to check on any collagen label:
- Grams of collagen per serve, not the scoop weight or the tub weight.
- Source: fish, bovine, chicken cartilage or plant-based (no collagen).
- Form: hydrolysed peptides, gelatin or undenatured type II.
- Branded peptide name, if you want the exact ingredient a study used: Verisol, Fortigel, Naticol or Peptan.
- Allergen and advisory statements: "contains fish", "may contain" lines, the under-15 and pregnancy statement, and the AUST L number if there is one.
How to Choose a Collagen Supplement
Eight steps to the right tub:
- Pick your goal: skin, nails, joints, bone, muscle, tendons or extra protein.
- Match the study dose: 2.5 g or more for skin and nails, 5 g to 10 g for joints and bone, 15 g for muscle and tendons.
- Choose the source: bovine for big doses on a budget, marine if you avoid beef, plant-based builders only if you are vegan.
- Choose the format: powder for 5 g or more; tablets, sachets or a shot for 2.5 g to 5 g; capsules for small doses.
- Compare cost per 10 g of collagen, not tub price.
- Look for vitamin C if you want an extra with clear evidence for collagen formation.
- Give it 8 to 12 weeks, unless your pack sets a shorter course. Most studies ran at least that long.
- Ask us: book a free 10-minute consultation with one of our practitioners if you are unsure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is collagen?
Collagen is a filamentous protein highly important for the body to form the basis of connective tissue. It is one of the key components of joints, bones, tendons, hair, skin, nails and teeth, as well as the walls of veins and arteries. Collagen fibres are needed to fasten cells and help tissues withstand stretching.
Collagen is synthesised by the body itself from the ingredients that we get from food. In collagen synthesis, cells combine amino acids from protein-rich foods such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood, eggs, dairy products and legumes. The process of collagen synthesis also requires vitamin C, zinc, copper, selenium and other minerals. However, regardless of diet and lifestyle, with age, the body reduces the production of collagen, so you may consider taking collagen supplements. Health benefits of collagen supplements
How to take collagen?
Collagen is available in different forms: tablets, capsules, powder and liquid. Powdered collagen is considered the most effective and convenient. It can be diluted with water, juice or added to soups and broths. Capsular and tablet collagen is absorbed at a slower rate than collagen powder. Hydrolysed collagen, i.e. partially split, is best absorbed in the body. Most manufacturers recommend taking collagen supplements with meals. To clarify the dosage, consult with your doctor and carefully study the information on the supplement.
Health risks associated with collagen supplements
There are no known contraindications to the use of collagen supplements. However, some side effects may occur. In addition to collagen, supplements may also contain ingredients that can cause allergies. Be sure to carefully study the composition before using any supplement. Moreover, in some instances collagen supplements can cause heartburn and bloat, along with an unpleasant aftertaste. Despite the possible side effects, collagen supplements are recognised as safe. The use of collagen can even be recommended for pregnant or lactating women, but only under the supervision of their physicians.
What are collagen peptides?
Collagen peptides are short chains of amino acids isolated from native (full-length) collagen through a process called enzymatic hydrolysis. At the molecular level, collagen is made up of three long amino acid chains that form a high molecular weight triple helix. Collagen peptides are enclosed in a rigid and insoluble matrix of collagen fibres. As a result of hydrolysis, the peptide bonds are broken so that the collagen peptides can be extracted. The peptides are easier to digest and have greater potency than regular collagen.
What is marine collagen?
Marine collagen is obtained from the skin and scales of deep-sea fish. It has a very high “bioavailability” - the rate at which it is absorbed into the bloodstream through the intestinal wall. Marine collagen is almost exclusively type 1 collagen needed for healthy skin and hair. Its peptide molecules are smaller in size, making marine collagen slightly more absorbable than animal derived collagen.
How much collagen per day?
Health authorities do not currently provide any official recommendations on how much collagen should be consumed each day. Thus, the amount of collagen you need depends on how you take it and why. According to some recent studies, collagen powder may provide health benefits to adults if consumed between 2.5 and 15 grams each day. The daily dosage of 2.5 grams could alleviate joint pain, improve skin health, and increase hydration. An increase in this dose to 5 grams per day has shown to be beneficial to bone density. Collagen peptides in higher doses, about 15 grams a day, mainly improve muscle mass and body composition. Check the nutrition facts label for dosage details. The dosage can vary greatly depending on the supplement.
How long does it take for collagen supplements to work?
It's usually between 6 and 12 weeks of regular collagen intake before you begin to notice improvements in skin elasticity, hydration, and density. A majority of collagen studies use a minimum of eight weeks to test its effects on skin health and joint pain relief, but the best results are expected if you stick with collagen supplements for at least three months.
What is the best collagen supplement in Australia?
With an extensive variety of collagen supplements on the market, it is hard to find the best supplement. The choice also depends on your purposes and needs, because there are different collagen supplements for skin, joints, muscles and so on. However, at Mr Vitamins you can find the most popular collagen supplements from leading brands like Blackmores, Caruso's Natural Health, EHP Labs, JS Health and more.
Can you take collagen when pregnant?
Taking collagen supplements can be helpful during pregnancy and postpartum. It is common for pregnant women to suffer from brittle hair and even hair loss, so collagen supplements can help restore hair health. Also, collagen is essential for skin elasticity and joint health, which are two body systems that are both pushed to their limit during pregnancy. However, pregnant women should be extra careful about what they consume, especially supplements. Despite being generally considered safe during pregnancy, some collagen supplements may still contain chemical additives that aren't recommended while pregnant. Therefore, if you are considering taking collagen supplements, consult your doctor first.
Are collagen supplements effective?
Research suggests that collagen supplements can support skin elasticity, joint health, and bone strength when taken consistently. Results typically become noticeable after 8-12 weeks of regular use.
What happens to your body when you start taking collagen?
Many users report improved skin hydration and joint comfort within the first few weeks. Over time, you may notice stronger nails, healthier hair, and better recovery after exercise.
\"What is the best form of collagen to take?
The best form of collagen to take depends on your specific health goals and preferences. Hydrolysed collagen peptides are highly effective because they’re easily absorbed by the body. Both marine and bovine collagen are also beneficial, but marine collagen is especially well-absorbed due to its smaller particles. Bovine collagen supports skin, hair, and joints. Both types offer essential amino acids that promote overall health. \"
Are there any side effects of collagen supplements?
Collagen supplements are generally well-tolerated. Some people may experience mild digestive discomfort initially. It's always best to start with the recommended dosage and consult healthcare professionals if concerned.
What's the best time to take collagen supplements?
Collagen can be taken any time of day. For optimal absorption, consider taking it on an empty stomach or with vitamin C-rich foods to enhance collagen synthesis.
