Common questions
Is bone broth concentrate the same as collagen peptides?
Not quite. Bone broth concentrate is a whole-food extract with a varying mix of gelatin, collagen peptides, amino acids and minerals, depending on the bones used and how long they were simmered. Collagen peptides are broken down with enzymes to give a known, consistent dose. The two aren't interchangeable, even though the gelatin in bone broth breaks down into similar building blocks.
Is there research on bone broth itself, or just its ingredients?
Mostly just its ingredients. The trials behind bone broth's marketing were done on purified gelatin and collagen hydrolysate, not on bone broth as a finished product. How much gelatin and minerals a broth contains varies a lot with the bones and the simmering time, so a trial using a measured dose of gelatin doesn't tell you exactly what's in your cup. Think of it as a supportive food rather than something proven for the finished drink.
