Milk
Is milk a good source of calcium?
Yes, milk is one of the easiest ways to get the calcium your bones need, plus protein, iodine and B12. Choose fresh, UHT, powdered, lactose-free, A2 or goat, by the glass.

How the forms compare
Common questions
I'm lactose intolerant. Can I still have milk?
Most people with lactose intolerance can manage about 12 g of lactose at once, roughly a cup of milk, and up to 24 g a day if it's spread across meals. Symptoms become noticeable above that, and most people react to 50 g. Try a smaller amount with food before ruling milk out altogether.
Is native whey worth the extra money over ordinary whey or milk protein?
Not on the evidence here. Two separate randomised trials, one in older adults over 11 weeks and one in young adults over 12 weeks, found native whey gave the same muscle and strength gains as ordinary milk protein, even with its higher leucine content. What mattered was getting enough protein and training, not which part of the milk it came from.
Can I give my baby a colostrum or lactoferrin milk powder?
Not without checking first. Cow's colostrum powder and the immunoglobulin-rich whey fraction must both carry an Australian label warning: not suitable for children under 12 months except on the advice of a health professional. Cow's lactoferrin on its own carries no such warning, so check exactly which active a product contains before giving it to a baby.
