Chaga Mushroom
A rugged mushroom from northern forests.
Chaga isn't the cap-and-stem kind. It grows as a hard, dense mass, and it's dried into a powder, capsule or extract that's sold here as a food.

Is this the right functional mushrooms for you?
Common questions
Can chaga carry a health claim in Australia?
No. Inonotus obliquus isn't on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1), so it can't go into a listed medicine or carry an AUST L number for that ingredient. Permitted health claims only apply to listed medicines. Chaga is legally sold here as a food, and a food can't use one, so no chaga product can make a health claim.
Why doesn't this page say what chaga does?
Because all the research we hold on chaga was done in animals. The published studies we've reviewed were in mice and rats, and none were human trials. One of those papers calls chaga a traditional medicinal mushroom, which is a statement about its history, not its effect. So this page tells you what chaga is rather than what it'll do. We'd rather say that plainly than borrow results from a different mushroom.
