Description
Swisse Ultiboost High Strength Magnesium Powder is a dissolving magnesium drink powder that comes as a 180 g tub in a berry flavour and an orange flavour. One level scoop of 7.5 g carries 300 mg of magnesium from magnesium citrate nonahydrate and magnesium glycinate dihydrate, together with 250 mg of calcium, 100 mg of vitamin C and 3.5 mg of zinc. It is stirred into 200 mL of water or juice once a day with food, and suits adults who would rather drink a magnesium supplement than swallow tablets or capsules.

Suggested Use

Common questions
Which form of magnesium is best absorbed?
The forms that dissolve well absorb best. Magnesium citrate, chloride, lactate and aspartate are absorbed more completely than magnesium oxide or sulfate, and one review puts oxide absorption as low as 4%. Glycinate and chloride also absorb well and are usually gentler on your bowels. Oxide is poorly absorbed.
How much magnesium is too much?
The NHMRC upper limit for magnesium from supplements is 350 mg a day if you're nine or older, 110 mg for ages four to eight, and 65 mg for ages one to three. That limit covers supplements and medicines only, not magnesium from food.
Does magnesium interact with medicines?
Yes. Magnesium can bind to bisphosphonates and some antibiotics, so you need to space them apart: at least two hours for bisphosphonates, and two hours before or four to six hours after tetracyclines and quinolones. Loop and thiazide diuretics make you lose more magnesium in your urine. Check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
What does the evidence actually say about magnesium and sleep?
It's less solid than the marketing suggests. Systematic reviews have found people fell asleep a little sooner, around 17 minutes in one analysis, but reviewers rated the trials too weak for firm recommendations. The evidence for anxiety and mood is similarly low quality. The honest answer: promising, but not proven.
