Chlorophyll
What is chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is the green pigment of plants, and drinks usually contain chlorophyllin, a copper form of it that dissolves in water. Choose a concentrate to mix with water, a flavoured liquid or handy single-serve sachets.

Is Chlorophyll right for you?
Common questions
What's the difference between chlorophyll and chlorophyllin?
Chlorophyll is the pigment as it occurs in plants and algae, and it doesn't dissolve in water. Chlorophyllin is a copper form made from it that does, which is why bottled green drinks nearly always use chlorophyllin rather than chlorophyll. Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) treats them as separate items. Labels use both names loosely, so read the ingredients panel on the product in your hand.
Is chlorophyll regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Chlorophyll is a permitted ingredient in listed medicines (item 1351 on Australia's permitted ingredients list, Schedule 1), but only as a colour, not an active ingredient. Its copper forms, at items 1352, 1353, 1354 and 1562, have the same restriction. We found no permitted health claim for chlorophyll, so no listed medicine carries an approved use for it. Chlorophyll sold as a food, drink or cosmetic ingredient falls outside medicine rules altogether.
