Description
Springfields Sanctuary is a ready made blend of five pure essential oils rather than a single oil. Patchouli and ylang ylang give it depth and a soft sweetness, sweet orange lifts it, and lavender and geranium round it out, so the finished aroma is warm, floral and grounded rather than sharp. It is designed for the diffuser and for scenting a room, and it is the same blend Springfields uses to fragrance its Relaxation body cream. Springfields is an Australian owned aromatherapy company based at Kulnura in New South Wales. It is the 10 mL bottle.
Product Strengths
- Lavender, patchouli and ylang ylang are traditionally used in aromatherapy for a calm, restful atmosphere at home.
- Five pure essential oils: lavender, patchouli, ylang ylang, sweet orange and geranium, with no carrier oil and no synthetic fragrance.
- Pre-blended: the proportions are already balanced, so there is nothing to work out before you use it.
- Warm floral aroma: patchouli and ylang ylang carry the base, sweet orange brightens the top.
- Made for the room: a few drops in a diffuser scent a living space or bedroom.
- Australian made and owned, and vegan.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Vegans and vegetarians; General household use.
Not suitable for: Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional.
Botanical Source
This is a blend, so it has no single botanical source. The component oils are lavender, patchouli, ylang ylang, sweet orange and geranium. One Australian stockist lists the botanical names as Lavandula angustifolia, Pogostemon cablin, Cananga odorata, Citrus aurantium dulcis and Pelargonium graveolens; that identification comes from a single retailer and is not confirmed by Springfields, so treat the binomials as indicative. No individual extraction method or country of origin is declared for the components.
How to Use
One set of directions for this blend is 6 drops in a diffuser, and for the bath 6 drops mixed with 6 drops of dispersant added to warm water. A second set of directions for the same blend gives 6 to 8 drops in a diffuser, 2 to 3 drops in the corner of the shower, 2 to 3 drops in a dispersant for the bath, and 1 drop in 5ml of carrier oil for topical use. Because the two disagree, follow the bottle in front of you. As a general guide, adult skin blends are made at roughly 1 to 3 per cent essential oil in a carrier oil. Confirm directions from product label.
Safety
- Not for internal use. Do not swallow this blend unless you are under the supervision of a suitably qualified practitioner.
- Always dilute before skin contact. Never apply neat to the skin; the usual guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent in a carrier oil.
- Patch test first. Apply a small amount of the diluted blend to the inner forearm and wait 24 hours before wider use. Ylang ylang is one of the oils more likely to cause a reaction on sensitive skin.
- Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes. If the oil gets into the eyes, flush with a plain vegetable oil and then water and seek medical advice.
- Contains a citrus oil. Springfields publishes no phototoxicity statement for this blend and does not say whether the sweet orange component is expressed or distilled, so as a precaution keep skin treated with it out of direct sunlight and off sunbeds for at least 12 hours.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Flammable. Essential oils are flammable. Keep away from naked flame, candles and other ignition sources.
- Discontinue use if any sensitivity occurs. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition or are taking medication, speak with your doctor or a qualified aromatherapist before using essential oils.
Storage
Replace the cap firmly after use and store upright below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of reach of children. Confirm storage directions from product label.
