Neroli 2.5% In Jojoba

Springfields Neroli 2.5% In Jojoba is not a neat essential oil. It is pure neroli, distilled from the blossom of the bitter orange tree, Citrus aurantium, already diluted to 2.5 per cent in jojoba and supplied ready to use on the skin as it comes. Neroli is one of the most expensive oils in aromatherapy because the blossoms have to be picked by hand, and pre-dilution is the usual way it is sold at a workable price. The aroma is delicately sweet and floral with a soft citrus edge. It is the 10 mL bottle from the Springfields range.

Botanical Source

Botanical name Citrus aurantium, the bitter orange. Plant part: the blossom, which is what distinguishes neroli from petitgrain (the leaves and twigs) and from bitter orange oil (the peel). Extraction: steam distillation. The carrier is jojoba, Simmondsia chinensis, at 97.5 per cent of the bottle. No country of origin for the neroli, so no origin is stated here.

How to Use

This blend is supplied for direct application to the skin, so use it as it comes and do not dilute it again. Apply a few drops to the wrists or the pulse points as a natural perfume, or work a few drops into the face or the decolletage as part of a skincare routine. It can also be added to a diffuser, though it is a costly way to scent a room compared with the pure oils. Because it is already carried in jojoba, do not use it as a concentrate in a blend or add it to another carrier expecting the strength of a neat essential oil.

Safety

• Do not dilute further and do not treat it as a neat essential oil. It is a finished 2.5 per cent skin preparation.
• Patch test on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours before wider use, as you would with any new skin product.
• Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes.

• Keep away from open flame, sparks and heat sources. Essential oils are flammable.
• Steam-distilled neroli is not phototoxic, so no sunlight restriction applies after use, unlike the cold-pressed citrus peel oils.
• The standard references indicate no special precautions for neroli, but if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or under medical care, check with a qualified aromatherapy practitioner or your healthcare professional before adding any aromatic product to your routine.
• Jojoba is a desert shrub seed wax rather than a tree nut oil, but if you have known plant sensitivities, patch test first.

Storage

Store tightly capped in the original bottle, upright, away from heat and out of direct sunlight. Jojoba is stable and slow to oxidise, so this blend keeps better than a citrus oil, but heat and light will still dull the aroma.
