Description
Springfields Lime is a single-species essential oil expressed from the peel of the lime fruit, Citrus aurantifolia. The aroma is fresh, sharp and fruity, a bright citrus top note that adds a citrus lift to a blend. It is the 10 mL bottle from the Springfields 100% Pure Essential Oils range, sold for diffusing, for blending with other oils, and for diluted use in a carrier oil. A drop or two is what lifts a blend that has gone heavy, and on its own it is diffused for a sharp, clean citrus note or diluted into a carrier oil for a fresh aftershave-style blend.

How to Use
Add a few drops to a diffuser or vaporiser to scent a room. For any skin contact, dilute the oil first in a carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba or grapeseed. The usual guidance for adults is 1 to 3 per cent, which is roughly 1 to 3 drops of essential oil in 5 mL of carrier oil, and lower again for a phototoxic citrus oil on skin that will see daylight. For a bath, blend the drops into a dispersant or a carrier oil first rather than dropping them straight onto the water. Read the Safety section below before any use on skin.
Safety
This is a cold-pressed citrus oil and it is phototoxic. Keep skin that has been treated with it out of direct sunlight and off sunbeds for at least 12 hours afterwards. The International Federation of Aromatherapists lists expressed lime as a moderate-risk phototoxic oil, and notes that steam-distilled lime does not carry the same risk. We checked the current Springfields catalogue and it does not offer a bergapten-free (FCF) grade of lime or of any other citrus oil, so the oil supplied here is the whole cold-pressed oil and the phototoxicity caution applies in full.
- Not for internal use unless under qualified supervision.
- Always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact. Never apply the neat oil.
- Patch test on a small area of skin and wait 24 hours before wider use.
- Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Keep away from open flame, sparks and heat sources. Essential oils are flammable.
- Citrus oils oxidise with age, and an oxidised oil is more likely to irritate skin. Replace the bottle once the aroma has dulled.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or using essential oils with children or anyone under medical care, seek advice from a qualified aromatherapy practitioner first.

Store tightly capped in the original bottle, upright, away from heat and out of direct sunlight. Citrus oils are the shortest-lived of the essential oils, so keeping the bottle cool and firmly closed matters.
