Description
Springfields Frankincense, also known as olibanum, is a 100 per cent pure frankincense essential oil with a strong woody aroma and a hint of spice, carrying the fresh, balsamic and faintly fruity resin character the oil is prized for. It is a base note, which is why it is such a common fixative in perfumery, and it is known as the oil of meditation. Frankincense resin has been burned in religious and contemplative practice for thousands of years, and the distilled oil remains a standard choice for that use.
Product Strengths
- 100 per cent pure frankincense essential oil, with nothing blended in or extended.
- Strong, woody, balsamic aroma with a hint of spice and a fresh resinous top.
- A base note, so it anchors and holds a blend together and is widely used in perfumery.
- A long-standing choice for meditation and quiet practice.
- Springfields applies a testing protocol intended to confirm the oil is pure and unadulterated.
- Australian owned company, bottled in Australia.
- 5ml bottle.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: General household use.
Not suitable for: Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Botanical Source
Boswellia carterii, catalogued by many references under the synonym Boswellia sacra. The botanical name is Boswellia carterii, the plant material is stem and resin, the extraction method is steam distillation and the perfumery note is base. The growing origin of the resin is not declared.
How to Use
These are the directions for this oil.
- Diffuser: add 6 to 8 drops.
- Inhalation: add 1 drop to a tissue.
- Massage: add 6 drops to 2 tablespoons of massage oil, or to Springfields' unscented jojoba cream.
- Bath: blend 6 drops with 6 drops of dispersant and add the mixture to a warm bath.
- Facial cream: add 1 drop to your moisturiser.
Confirm directions from the product label.
Safety
- For external use only. Not to be taken, and not for internal use unless under qualified supervision.
- Always dilute in a carrier oil before skin contact. The usual working range for an adult is 1 to 3 per cent, which is roughly 1 to 3 drops in 5ml of carrier oil. Springfields' own facial guidance of 1 drop into a moisturiser sits within that range.
- Patch test on a small area of skin before wider use.
- Keep away from the eyes and mucous membranes, and do not apply to broken or damaged skin.
- Do not apply the oil to the skin once it has oxidised. AromaWeb's profile is explicit that skin sensitisation is more likely with oxidised frankincense. Keep the bottle closed, buy a size you will use, and replace it if the aroma turns sharp.
- Pregnancy: frankincense is not on the standard lists of oils contraindicated in pregnancy, and Springfields prints no pregnancy warning on this pack. AromaWeb's general guidance is nonetheless that anyone who is pregnant, or who has epilepsy, liver damage or cancer, should use essential oils only under the guidance of a qualified aromatherapy practitioner, and the same advice applies to use with children, older people and anyone taking medication.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Essential oils are flammable. Keep away from open flame and heat sources.
Storage
Store below 30 degrees Celsius in a dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap firmly closed between uses to slow oxidation.
