Is juniper berry oil allowed in Australian supplements?
Yes. Juniper berry oil is a permitted ingredient in listed medicines (item 2849 on Australia's permitted ingredients list), with no specific requirements. The terpeneless version (item 2850) is different: it's only allowed as a fragrance, mixed with other ingredients, at no more than 1% total fragrance.
What should I look for on a juniper label?
Look for Juniperus communis, the botanical name, and check whether it's the berry or the berry oil. Other juniper species and plant parts are listed separately under their own names in the Australian rules, so the name on the pack tells you exactly which one you're buying.
