Description
Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is an essential water-soluble vitamin that the human body cannot make for itself, so it has to come from food or from supplementation. It acts as a co-factor in a number of enzyme reactions, including those that build collagen, the structural protein that holds skin, tendon, cartilage and blood vessel walls together, and it improves the absorption of non-haem iron, the form of iron found in plant foods.
