Myo-inositol is a naturally occurring carbocyclic sugar alcohol and the most abundant form of inositol in the human body. It turns up in ordinary foods such as citrus fruit, beans, grains and nuts, and inside the cell it works as a secondary messenger, one of the small molecules that relay signals once a receptor on the cell surface has been triggered.
