Description
Planet Organic Whole Cloves are the dried flower buds of a tree in the myrtle family, left whole in a 35 g glass shaker rather than ground. Whole, the aroma stays locked in the bud until heat releases it, and the flavour is intense, warm and sweetly pungent. They go into stocks, sauces, braises, pickles and preserves and are lifted out before serving, they are pressed into the scored skin of a ham before baking, and a few dropped into the syrup when poaching fruit will carry the whole pot.
Product Strengths
- Flavours stocks, sauces, braises, pickles and preserves, and lifts out again before serving.
- Presses into the scored skin of a ham before baking.
- Goes into the syrup when poaching pears and other fruit.
- Studs an onion for a bechamel or a bread sauce, and spikes mulled wine and chai.
- Whole rather than ground, so the aroma keeps until the bud is heated or bruised.
- Certified organic cloves and nothing else.
- Comes as the 35 g glass shaker.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: everyday cooking, and for vegan and vegetarian diets, since the only ingredient is the dried bud.
Not suitable for: Anyone allergic or sensitive to an ingredient on the pack.
Suggested Use
Use whole cloves in stocks, sauces, braises, pickles and preserves and remove them before serving. Press them into the scored skin of a ham before baking, stud a peeled onion with them for a bread sauce, and add a few to the syrup when poaching fruit.
Cloves are strong, so a few are usually enough for a pot. Bruise them or warm them briefly in a dry pan before they go in if you want the aroma to open faster, and grind them fresh when a recipe calls for ground cloves.
Ingredients
- Certified organic whole cloves.
