Description
Planet Organic Ground Turmeric is certified organic turmeric root, dried and milled to a fine powder, in a 60 g jar. It smells peppery and slightly resinous, tastes earthy with a faint bitter edge, and stains anything it touches a deep gold. Stir it into curry pastes, dals, roasted vegetables and pickles, or add a pinch to the water when you cook a cup of rice for colour.
Product Strengths

- A pinch in the cooking water turns a pot of rice soft gold, at a fraction of what saffron costs.
- Goes into pickles and relishes, where it colours the brine as well as the vegetables.
- Certified organic turmeric root and nothing else: no anti caking agent, no colour, no filler.
- Ground fine, so it dissolves into a paste or a sauce rather than sitting on top.
- 60 g in a recyclable glass jar with an aluminium lid.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Everyday cooking; vegetarian and vegan diets, since the only ingredient is ground turmeric root.
Not suitable for: Anyone avoiding turmeric.
Suggested Use
Add turmeric early, with the onions and the other ground spices, and let it cook in the oil for half a minute or so before any liquid goes into the pan; raw turmeric tastes dusty and cooking it out fixes that. Use it in curry pastes, dals, tagines and soups, in a rub for chicken, fish or cauliflower, and in pickles and relishes. A pinch in the water for a cup of rice gives a soft gold colour. Start small and taste as you go, because turmeric turns bitter if you overdo it. Confirm serving and directions from product label.

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight with the lid closed, and use a dry spoon so no moisture gets into the jar. Turmeric will stain plastic, timber boards and cloth, so wipe spills straight away.
