Iron Bisglycinate
Why choose iron bisglycinate?
People often switch to iron bisglycinate when a plain iron tablet left them constipated or queasy, and fewer people report tummy troubles on it. Iron helps your blood carry oxygen around your body.

How the forms compare
Common questions
Is iron bisglycinate really gentler than ferrous sulfate?
The evidence points that way. A systematic review of 17 trials in 2,191 people found fewer gut side effects in pregnancy, at roughly a third of the rate (an incidence rate ratio of 0.36). To be fair, the review rated its own evidence very low quality, and the bisglycinate groups often took less elemental iron than the comparison groups.
Is iron bisglycinate the same as iron amino acid chelate?
Not exactly. Iron amino acid chelate is the broader category, and Australian labels often list a bisglycinate product under that name. Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) treats them as separate entries: iron (II) glycinate is item 2727, iron amino acid chelate is item 2729, and only the chelate entry caps iron at 25 per cent of the compound.
Why does iron bisglycinate cost more?
It comes down to the chelate, not extra iron. About 120 milligrams of iron (II) glycinate is needed to provide 24 milligrams of elemental iron, and chelates take more to make than a simple salt. Because every Australian listed medicine stops at 24 milligrams of iron a day, compare products at the same elemental iron figure.
