Description
Pacific Harvest Wakame Leaves Wild is the generous 80 g box of wild Undaria, made for cooks who reach for wakame often. The leaves are air dried to hold their colour and flavour and tested for contaminants. Wakame is subtle and silken rather than strongly flavoured, softening in a minute or two of soaking, so it slips easily into miso and other broths, salads and stir fries. It is a brown seaweed, a group that can carry a great deal of iodine, so measure it out to the serve on the pack.
Product Strengths
- Just one ingredient: 100 per cent wild wakame.
- A subtle, silken seaweed that softens in a minute or two of soaking.
- Use it as you would any green vegetable, in broths, salads and stir fries.
- Air dried and tested for contaminants.
- The larger 80 g box, for regular cooks.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Cooks who use wakame regularly in broths, salads and stir fries and want the larger pack.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; anyone allergic to crustacea, fish or molluscs, as the product may contain traces of all three; anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, without advice from their health professional, because this is a brown seaweed and pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised not to over-consume brown seaweeds with potentially high levels of iodine; and anyone with a thyroid condition or taking thyroid medication, without advice from their health professional.
Ingredients
Wakame (Undaria sp.) dried sea vegetable 100 per cent. Wild harvested from the South Island of New Zealand.
The fine white bloom that can appear on a naturally dried seaweed is glutamine, an amino acid that rises to the surface as the leaf dries. It is where the savoury flavour comes from and it is not mould.
Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Suggested Use
Soak the leaves in cold water for a minute or two, drain, and use them as you would any green vegetable: in miso and other broths, in salads with sesame and rice vinegar, or in stir fries. Follow the serving suggestion printed on the pack.
Allergens
MAY CONTAIN TRACES OF: Crustacea, Fish, Molluscs. The only ingredient is seaweed.
That is a cross contact statement about the harvest and the packing line, not a statement that any of the three is an ingredient, and nothing should be read into what it leaves out. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Warnings
- Contains naturally occurring iodine. Excessive consumption may exceed recommended daily dietary intakes which could have adverse effects.
- Keep to the serve size printed on the pack. Dried wakame swells several times over once it is soaked, so a serve goes further than it looks.
- Australia's food regulator advises consumers, and pregnant and breastfeeding women in particular, not to over-consume brown seaweeds with potentially high levels of iodine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your health professional before eating this seaweed.
- If you have a thyroid condition or take medication for your thyroid, talk to your health professional before adding seaweed to your diet.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Seal the pack securely once opened. Keep out of reach of children.
Disclaimer
Always read the label and follow the directions for use. This information is a guide only, and the pack is the authority on ingredients, nutrition and allergens.

Select wild wakame if you follow a raw diet.
If you are in a rush, you may prefer the convenience of the farmed wakame which has been blanched and precut.
