Description
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Casein is a slow digesting protein powder made from micellar casein, the fraction of milk protein that forms a gel in the stomach and releases its amino acids over several hours rather than in one quick wave. That is why it is usually taken before bed or between meals rather than straight after training, where a whey powder makes more sense. Each heaping scoop supplies 24 g of protein. It comes as five packs: Chocolate Peanut Butter in both a roughly 821 g tub and a 1.75 kg tub, Cookies and Cream in roughly 821 g, Vanilla in roughly 821 g, and Chocolate in roughly 848 g. The stretch between dinner and breakfast is the longest a training person goes without protein, and casein is the powder people reach for to cover it, or to hold a long gap between meals during the day.
Product Strengths
- Each heaped scoop adds 24 g to the day's protein intake.
- 24 g of micellar casein protein per heaping 34 g scoop.
- Slow release protein: casein thickens in the stomach and is broken down gradually, which is why it is commonly used at night or between meals.
- Includes Aminogen, a protease enzyme blend added to the formula.
- Low in fat at 1 g and low in sugars at 1 g per serve.
- Four flavours across this pack: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, Vanilla and Chocolate.
- Two tub sizes: the smaller tub at about 821 g to 848 g and the larger Chocolate Peanut Butter tub at about 1.75 kg.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Active adults and athletes.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; Vegans, because it contains a dairy ingredient; Pregnant or breastfeeding women, unless advised by a health professional; Children, because it is for adults only; Anyone avoiding soy.

Ingredients
- Micellar casein.
- Cocoa powder, processed with alkali, in the chocolate flavours.
- Natural and artificial flavour.
- Salt.
- Gum blend: cellulose gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan.
- Lecithin.
- Acesulfame potassium and sucralose.

The ingredient list above is the chocolate flavour of the Gold Standard 100% Casein range, so the cocoa line will not appear on a vanilla or cookies and cream pack. Check the list on the tub you receive.
Allergens
Contains milk and soy. Casein is a milk protein and the lecithin is soy derived, so it is not suitable for anyone with a dairy or soy allergy, not suitable for anyone avoiding lactose entirely, and not suitable for vegans. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Serving Suggestion
Add one heaping scoop to about 250 mL to 300 mL of water or the beverage of your choice, cover and shake for 25 to 30 seconds. It can be taken at any time of day, including before bed.
Warnings
This is a protein food, not a medicine, and it is not a substitute for a varied diet. Not suitable for children except under medical or dietetic supervision. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a kidney condition, talk to your doctor or dietitian before adding a concentrated protein powder to your diet. Keep out of reach of children.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight, and keep the lid firmly closed. Use the scoop provided and keep it dry.
