Resveratrol
What is resveratrol studied for?
Resveratrol is a plant compound found in grape skins that's been studied for helping your blood vessels open to move blood where it's needed. Most capsules use resveratrol from Japanese knotweed root.

Common questions
Why is my Australian resveratrol 150 mg when overseas ones are 500 mg?
Because Australian law caps it. Item 4304 of Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) says the maximum recommended daily dose of a listed medicine must not contain more than 150 milligrams of resveratrol, and that cap comes with three required label warnings. Overseas products don't have to follow it, and plenty of published trials used 200 mg to 1,000 mg a day. It's worth knowing that many of the trial results you'll read about came from doses an Australian listed product can't legally provide.
Is resveratrol an anti-ageing or longevity supplement?
We can't describe it that way, and the human evidence doesn't support it either. There's no permitted claim in Australia for anti-ageing or longevity, so no listed medicine can be presented that way. The SIRT1 and AMPK findings people quote are lab measurements from muscle and blood samples, not real-life outcomes. And for the things longevity marketing usually promises, like memory, mood and brain volume, a review pooling 11 analyses of human studies found no significant effect, although the animal studies looked much better.
Is it worth taking for bones or menopausal symptoms?
Honestly, it's not settled, and we'd rather say so. A 24-month Australian trial in 125 postmenopausal women, using exactly 150 mg a day, reported gains in bone density at the spine and hip, less bone breakdown, and improvements in long-term pain and general wellbeing. On the other side, a pooled analysis of 10 trials in 698 people found no change in bone density anywhere, and a 2025 pooled analysis of 10 trials in 928 postmenopausal women found no effect on menopausal symptoms, mood, sleep or quality of life, although it did confirm the drop in the bone breakdown marker and the pain result. One good long trial says yes, and the pooled evidence says no. That's where it stands.
