Description
Natures Own Zinc + C Chewable pairs zinc with 250 mg of vitamin C in a tablet you chew rather than swallow, so no water is needed and it is easy to spread the dose across the day. The zinc comes as zinc gluconate and the vitamin C as a mix of ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate. It reduces the duration of the common cold, relieves the severity of cold symptoms, and supports immune system function, skin health, collagen formation and wound healing.

Zinc
What does zinc do?
Zinc helps your immune system fight off infection, and it helps your cells grow and divide and your wounds heal. It's an easy daily habit, taken with food.

Is Zinc right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does zinc actually help with a cold?
The evidence is mixed. A 2024 Cochrane review of zinc for the common cold rated its findings as low certainty. Zinc may shorten a cold by around two days once you have one, but there's no clear benefit for preventing colds and no strong sign it makes them milder. Side effects included nausea and an unpleasant taste.
Why do zinc lozenges keep coming up if the evidence is mixed?
Because the format may matter more than the milligrams. One published critique argues the Cochrane review grouped together products that work differently, and that the positive results came from lozenges dissolving slowly in the mouth, often zinc acetate at daily amounts above the 50 mg ceiling for Australian listed medicines. So the lozenges sold in Australia aren't the ones that were studied.
How much zinc is safe to take every day?
The NHMRC Upper Level of Intake for adults is 40 mg a day, counting food, water, fortified food and supplements together, and it's based on zinc's effect on copper. Australian listed medicines may recommend up to 50 mg. Anything above 25 mg a day must carry the required zinc warning on the label.
Which form of zinc should I choose?
For everyday use, the form matters less than the amount of elemental zinc and taking it with food. Amino acid chelate and citrate are common, well-tolerated choices. Citrate suits chewables and liquids, gluconate is the usual lozenge form, and sulfate is the most likely to cause nausea. Zinc oxide is mainly used on skin.
