Fenugreek
What does fenugreek do?
Fenugreek helps your body keep blood sugar in a healthy range, and that's where most of its research sits. Choose it as a spice, a tea, seed powder capsules or a concentrated extract.

Is Fenugreek right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does fenugreek actually increase breast milk?
It's the best-known milk-supply herb in Australia, but the evidence behind it is weak. The Cochrane review of 41 trials on milk-supply herbs and medicines couldn't combine the milk volume results at all and rated the certainty low to very low. It's worth talking to a midwife or lactation consultant rather than relying on it.
Does fenugreek raise testosterone?
The permitted Australian wording is that it helps maintain or support testosterone, and that's about where the evidence sits. Combined across seven studies in 449 athletes, the effect on total testosterone was small, and the results for free testosterone, lean muscle and leg-press strength weren't clear either way. It supports; it doesn't boost.
Why does fenugreek make you smell of maple syrup?
That's just fenugreek, and it's harmless. The smell comes out in sweat and urine, and it's the most common effect reported in the breastfeeding trials. Cochrane lists it, along with rash in babies, as the only side effects reported across 41 studies. It fades once you stop.
