Cranberry
Urinary tract support when infections keep coming back.
Cranberry is one of the best-studied herbal products there is. Look for the proanthocyanidin (PAC) dose on the label, because that's the number that counts.

Is Cranberry right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Does cranberry actually prevent urinary infections?
On the best evidence available, yes, modestly. A Cochrane review of 50 randomised trials in 8,857 people found cranberry products cut the risk by about a third, on moderate-certainty evidence. The benefit was clearest in women with recurring infections and in children. It showed no benefit for people living in care facilities, so it doesn't help everyone equally.
What does the 50,000 mg on the pack mean?
It's a fresh-fruit-equivalent figure: how much raw cranberry the extract was concentrated from. It tells you how concentrated it is and nothing about the active content. The compound that matches the trial benefit is proanthocyanidins, at 36 mg a day or more, and most Australian packs don't list it. If one does, that's the number to compare.
Can I take cranberry for an infection I have now?
No, and this is the important difference. The evidence is for prevention, not treatment. Cranberry's proanthocyanidins appear to stop bacteria gripping the lining of the urinary tract rather than killing them. An active infection with burning, urgency or fever needs a doctor, and putting that off carries real risk.
