Description
Lotus Bi-Carb Soda is pure sodium bicarbonate in a 500 g resealable oxygen barrier bag. In baking it is a leavening agent that reacts with the acids in a batter to produce the lift, and it is roughly four times as strong as baking powder, so recipes use far less of it. It is also the household standard for deodorising, scouring and bath soaks. Pair it with something acidic, buttermilk, yoghurt, honey or lemon, so the reaction happens at all, and keep the quantity small, because too much leaves a soapy taste behind.

- Single ingredient: sodium bicarbonate (E500), with no fillers or anti-caking agents.
- About four times as strong as baking powder, so a little goes a long way in cakes, breads, muffins and pizza bases.
- Neutralises the acids in a recipe, which is why it is paired with buttermilk, yoghurt, honey or citrus.
- No added aluminium, and vegan, halal and kosher.
- Also useful around the house for cleaning and as a bath soak.
