Description
Live More You Manuka Honey MGO500 is a raw Australian manuka honey in a 250 g jar, graded to a minimum of 500 mg of methylglyoxal per kilogram. Manuka honey is produced by bees foraging Leptospermum, and the front panel of this pack reads Pure Australian Manuka Honey, tested for MGO activity, with a 15+ activity number printed beside the MGO 500 circle. The jar holds 100% manuka honey with no additives or preservatives, cold extracted and minimally filtered so it stays raw. It is put up by Australian Pure Health Pty Ltd of Chatswood, New South Wales. Spoon it over porridge or yoghurt, spread it on toast, or stir it into tea.
Product Strengths
- Spoon it over porridge or yoghurt, spread it on toast, or stir it into tea.
- Graded MGO 500. Tested to contain at least 500 mg of methylglyoxal per kilogram, with the pack stating independently verified MGO levels.
- Australian manuka. The front panel reads Pure Australian Manuka Honey and the back panel carries a "Manuka Honey from Australia" statement.
- One ingredient. Manuka honey and nothing else, with no additives or preservatives declared.
- Raw and cold extracted. The honey is cold-extracted and minimally filtered to retain enzymes and nutrients.
- Wildcrafted. It is Wildcrafted Manuka, meaning the bees forage wild Leptospermum stands rather than a planted crop.
- Australian Made and Owned logo and a Lab Tested seal are printed on this pack.
- 250 g jar, stated as about 50 servings of 5 g.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; Infants under 12 months (contains honey); Vegans, because it contains honey.
Understanding the Grade
MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a compound that forms naturally in manuka honey as dihydroxyacetone from manuka nectar converts over time. The number is a graded specification rather than a marketing badge: MGO 500 means the honey has been tested to contain at least 500 milligrams of methylglyoxal per kilogram. A higher MGO number means more methylglyoxal per kilogram and nothing more. It measures the concentration of one compound; it is not a rating of flavour, purity or nutritional value, and it says nothing about what the honey does in the body.
This pack also prints a plain 15+ beside the MGO circle, and the scale that number belongs to is not named. It is not a UMF grading, and no UMF grading is given for this honey. UMF, the Unique Manuka Factor, is a New Zealand scheme operated under licence by the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association; it applies to New Zealand manuka honey and grades on four markers, MGO, leptosperin, DHA and HMF, rather than one. This honey is Australian, so the two schemes are not interchangeable. Australia runs its own system, the Australian Manuka Honey Association's Mark of Authenticity, which sets minimum MGO and DHA levels for certified Australian manuka; that mark does not appear on this pack either. The pack's own wording is "Tested for MGO Activity" and "Independently verified MGO levels", so the MGO figure is the specification to rely on and the 15+ should be read as an unqualified activity number.

Servings: 50 and serving size: 1 tbsp = 5 g. Note that 5 g of honey is closer to a level teaspoon than a tablespoon, so weigh the serve if the per serve column matters to you.
Ingredients
- 100% manuka honey.
No additives or preservatives are declared on the pack.
Allergens
Honey is a bee product. The allergen statement printed on the pack reads: "May contain Bee Pollen which can cause severe allergic reactions." If you are allergic to bee products, pollen or bee stings, do not use this product. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Suggested Use
The pack directs: enjoy on its own, or add to your favourite foods or beverages. Honey may crystallise naturally; warm gently if needed. In practice that means straight off the spoon, stirred through warm rather than boiling drinks, spread on toast, folded through yoghurt or porridge, or used in place of sugar in dressings and marinades. It is a food and there is no dose.

Storage
Store below 30 degrees C in a dry, cool place, as directed on the pack. Crystallisation is normal in raw, minimally filtered honey and is not a sign that it has spoiled; standing the sealed jar in warm water will bring it back to a pourable state. Use a clean, dry spoon each time. Do not use if the seal is broken.
Warnings
Not suitable for infants under 12 months. This warning is printed on the pack, and NSW Health advises avoiding giving honey to babies less than 12 months of age because raw honey has been shown to cause infant botulism in that age group. Do not use if seal is broken. This honey is almost entirely sugars, so account for it if you are managing carbohydrate intake. Not for anyone allergic to bee products or pollen.
Disclaimer
This product is sold as a food. It is not a therapeutic good, it holds no ARTG listing, and no therapeutic claim is made or implied for it. Manuka honey is not a treatment for any condition. Not suitable for infants under 12 months. Enjoy as part of a varied and balanced diet.

Manuka Honey
A spoonful eases a scratchy throat, and Manuka's the honey sold with a number on the jar.
That number is MGO or UMF. It measures methylglyoxal, the compound behind the antibacterial activity. Ordinary honey loses its activity as it sits around. Manuka's doesn't, and that's what you're paying for. Worth knowing the cough research used plain honey, not this.

Is this the right honey for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
What is the difference between MGO and UMF in manuka honey?
MGO states methylglyoxal in milligrams per kilogram. One direct chemical measurement. UMF is four tests reported as one number: methylglyoxal for potency, leptosperin to confirm the honey really is manuka, dihydroxyacetone as the precursor that predicts shelf life, and HMF to show it was not overheated. Both are meaningful; UMF simply tells you more.
Is Australian manuka honey as good as New Zealand manuka honey?
Chemically it can be. Australia holds 83 of the world's 87 Leptospermum species, and a study of 80 Australian samples found methylglyoxal up to 1,100 milligrams per kilogram, with 22 samples matching or exceeding the New Zealand comparison honey. The difference is mostly certification and naming, which has been contested between the two countries.
Can babies have manuka honey?
No. Honey of any kind, any grade and any price must not be given to infants under twelve months, because it can carry spores that a baby's gut cannot yet handle. healthdirect advises against honey for babies under 12 months, and Australian medicines containing honey must carry that restriction on the label. This includes honey stirred into food or put on a dummy.
What MGO number should I buy?
There is no evidence-based number to aim for if you are eating it, because the grading measures what the honey does in a laboratory dish, not what it does once swallowed. What the grade reliably buys you is a stronger flavour and a higher price. Buy the grade you are happy to pay for and read the testing method.
