Description
Live More You Activated Sunflower is certified organic hulled sunflower seeds soaked in water with a little Himalayan salt and then dried slowly at low temperature, the process known as activation. Sunflower kernels are seeds, not tree nuts. Activation is a preparation method rather than a treatment: it replaces roasting and leaves a light, crisp kernel that keeps its mild, gently sweet flavour. It is the 300 g resealable pouch. Scatter them over a salad or a tray of roast vegetables, fold them through a muesli or a granola, or eat them as they are; being seeds rather than tree nuts, they also work in a kitchen where nuts are off the table.
Product Strengths
- Blend them into a seed butter or a dairy-free pesto.
- Hulled sunflower kernels, certified organic, with nothing added but a little Himalayan salt used during soaking.
- Soaked and slowly dehydrated rather than dry roasted or oil roasted.
- Light, crisp texture and a mild, faintly sweet, seedy flavour.
- Resealable 300 g kraft pouch, an everyday size for the pantry.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients.
Ingredients
- Certified organic activated sunflower seeds.
- Himalayan salt (used during activation).
Allergens
Contains sunflower seeds. Sunflower kernels are seeds and are not tree nuts, and sunflower seed is not itself a declarable allergen under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, but it is declared on the pack. The pack also carries a cross-contamination advisory: may contain traces of tree nuts, peanuts and sesame. That advisory is the line to act on if you are allergic to tree nuts, peanuts or sesame, because it means the kernels are handled where those foods are present. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Nutrition Information
Serving size 50 g. Figures exactly as the store's legacy panel declared them.
| Average quantity | Per 50 g serve | Per 100 g |
|---|---|---|
| Energy | 1199 kJ | 2397 kJ |
| Protein | 11.4 g | 22.7 g |
| Fat, total | 26.0 g | 51.0 g |
| Fat, saturated | 2.2 g | 4.3 g |
| Carbohydrate, total | 1.1 g | 2.2 g |
| Carbohydrate, sugars | 1.0 g | 2.0 g |
| Sodium | 0.0 mg | 0.0 mg |
Two caveats. Sodium is declared as 0.0 mg, which sits oddly with an ingredient list that includes salted water; 93 mg per 100 g is typical for certified organic activated sunflower seeds, so confirm the figure on the pack. Confirm the sodium figure against the panel on the pack. Second, the per 50 g total fat of 26.0 g doubles to 52.0 g rather than the declared 51.0 g; the per 100 g figure is the one corroborated independently.
Suggested Use
Eat them by the handful, sprinkle over salads, soups and roasted vegetables, stir through granola or a smoothie, or add them to bread and baking for texture. Reseal the pouch between servings.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Reseal the pouch tightly after opening.
Disclaimer
This is a food, not a medicine, and is intended to be eaten as part of a varied and balanced diet. Activation describes a preparation method only. The nutrition information panel is printed on the pack; please read the panel on the pack you receive.
