Description
Live More You Activated Cashew is a 300 g pack of whole cashew kernels that have been activated, which means soaked and then dehydrated. Cashews are the seed of Anacardium occidentale and are prized in the kitchen for a soft, creamy bite that blends smooth, which is why they are the usual base for cashew cream and plant-based sauces. It comes as the 300 g pack only. Use them where a recipe calls for cream and you are cooking without dairy.
Product Strengths
- Blends into a smoothie or a dessert for a creamier texture.
- Eat them as a snack, or scatter them over a curry, a stir fry or a rice bowl.
- Whole cashew kernels, declared on the pack as 100% certified organic.
- Activated rather than roasted, so the kernels are soaked and then dried at low temperature.
- Lightly salted with Himalayan salt during activation.
- A two-ingredient food: cashews and salt, with no oil, sugar, colours or preservatives declared.
- Supplied as a 300 g resealable pack, the larger of the two sizes the store carries.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Those avoiding dairy; Vegans and vegetarians; Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; Anyone with a nut allergy; Anyone avoiding sesame.
About Activation
Activation is a two-step process. The raw kernels are soaked in lightly salted water for several hours, then dried in a dehydrator at a low temperature until they are crisp again. Live More You uses Himalayan salt at the soaking stage, which is why salt appears in the ingredient list. The result is a drier, crisper bite and a lightly savoury edge compared with a raw kernel. No oil is added at any point.
Suggested Use
Eat straight from the pack, or soak and blend into cashew cream, dressings, curry sauces and dairy-free desserts. Cashews also work chopped through stir-fries, salads and breakfast bowls, and they blend to a smoother finish than harder nuts. Whole nuts are a choking hazard for young children, and Australian guidance is not to give whole nuts to children under four years of age.
Ingredients
- Certified organic activated cashews.
- Himalayan salt, used during activation.
Allergens
Contains cashew, a declarable tree nut under the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code. The pack carries this advisory: "Contains Cashews. May contain traces of other Tree Nuts, Peanuts and Sesame." That is a cross-contamination statement, so it is not suitable for anyone allergic to any tree nut, to peanut or to sesame, even though cashew is the only nut used on purpose. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
