Description
Honest to Goodness Organic Cacao Powder is made from organic cocoa beans that are roasted, ground to a liquor, pressed to remove most of the cocoa butter, and milled to a fine powder. It is non-alkalised, so unlike Dutch-processed cocoa it keeps the natural acidity of the bean, which shows up as a tarter, sharper chocolate flavour and a slightly lighter colour. It is a workhorse for smoothies, hot chocolate, raw slices and baking. It comes as the 350 g pack.
Product Strengths
- Swaps in for Dutch-processed cocoa where you want a sharper, more bitter chocolate flavour.
- Its natural acidity works with bicarbonate of soda in cakes and biscuits.
- One ingredient: organic cacao powder. Honest to Goodness is certified by ACO (Australian Certified Organic).
- Non-alkalised, so it keeps the tart, acidic character of the bean.
- The beans are roasted, which develops the chocolate flavour and supports food safety. This is not a raw product.
- Honest to Goodness tests its cacao range against the heavy metal limits set in the Australian food standards.
- No added sugar and no preservatives.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients.
Serving Suggestion
Whisk into hot or cold milk for a chocolate drink, blend into smoothies, or stir through bliss balls, raw slices, icings and puddings. In baking, cacao powder can replace cocoa powder one for one in recipes that do not use baking powder or bicarbonate of soda. Where a recipe does rely on a raising agent, use the type of cocoa or cacao the recipe specifies, because the acidity of the powder affects how the batter rises. Confirm serving and directions from product label.
Ingredients
- Organic cacao powder (100%).
Allergens
No allergens are declared. Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Nutrition Information
The full nutrition information panel, covering energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, sugars, dietary fibre and sodium, is printed on the pack. Read it there for the figures that apply to the pack you receive.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Once opened, keep in an airtight container.
