Shatavari
A treasured root from Ayurvedic practice.
Shatavari is the dried root of a climbing plant from India and parts of Asia. On Australian labels, look for its botanical name, Asparagus racemosus.

Is Shatavari right for you?
Common questions
Why can't I find shatavari on the TGA ingredient list?
Because the list uses botanical names. Shatavari is in Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) as Asparagus racemosus, item 722. It's permitted in listed medicines, but only as the dried, peeled root, or as a water or water-and-alcohol extract of that root with up to 45% ethanol. There's no daily cap on it.
Why doesn't this page say what shatavari does?
Because we haven't yet gathered any clinical or traditional-use evidence for shatavari, and we won't write a claim we can't back up with a source. No permitted health claim has been confirmed for it yet either, so this page sticks to what it is. If you're weighing it up for something specific, our naturopaths can talk it through with you.
