Is Oregano Oil right for you?
Common questions
Is oregano oil regulated the same way as the dried herb?
No. Dried oregano for cooking comes under food law. Oregano oil, sold as drops, capsules or diluted oil, is much more concentrated, and its components (Origanum Oil and Carvacrol) are only permitted in medicines for narrow uses like fragrance or flavour. What's actually in a bottle depends on how the maker has classified it.
Is oregano oil the same as marjoram oil?
No, though the two plants are closely related. Oregano oil normally comes from Origanum vulgare, while marjoram is Origanum majorana, a different species in the same family. They're not interchangeable, so check the label to see which plant a product is made from.
