CoQ10
Your cells need CoQ10 to turn fuel into usable energy.
It's the shuttle that carries electrons through the mitochondria, and your body makes most of what it uses. Diet supplies only a small share. That's why people reach for it as they get older, or when a statin's in the picture.

Is CoQ10 right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Is ubiquinol better than ubiquinone?
Ubiquinol does measure better absorbed. A 2026 crossover in 12 adults found roughly twice the plasma exposure of a ubiquinone comparator at 240 milligrams. But a 2020 review argues those comparisons used poorly dispersed ubiquinone, and outcome trials comparing the two forms are largely absent. Better absorbed is not the same as better for you.
Should you take CoQ10 if you are on a statin?
Statins lower circulating CoQ10, partly because they lower blood lipids that carry it. Whether topping it up changes muscle symptoms is unsettled: one meta-analysis found no reduction in muscle pain, and a 2025 pooled analysis of seven trials found a small reduction with very high heterogeneity. Never stop a prescribed statin. Ask the doctor who prescribed it.
Does CoQ10 need to be taken with food?
Yes, and it makes a real difference. CoQ10 is fat-soluble and is best absorbed with fat in a meal, because it travels out of the gut inside chylomicrons via the lymph. Single-dose absorption also appears capped, so amounts above 100 milligrams are usually split into two or three doses across the day.
Why is 300 mg the highest CoQ10 strength sold in Australia?
Because the Permissible Ingredients Determination sets it as a legal ceiling. A listed medicine's maximum recommended daily dose may not provide more than 300 milligrams of ubiquinone or ubiquinol, or of the two combined. Research doses run far higher, but those are supervised clinical settings rather than products you can buy off a shelf.
