Description
Healthwise Koji8 is an 8:1 concentrate of Oryza sativa rice cultured with the yeast Monascus purpureus, a fermentation that turns the grain a deep red. It is pure powder, packed without fillers or flowing agents, and it tests negative for citrinin to a detection limit of 1 ppm. Red yeast rice has a long place in Chinese cooking, where it colours and lightly flavours dishes such as pickled tofu, red rice vinegar and Peking duck; stir a gram or two through food, or into water or juice.

Precautions
If taking prescription medication or pregnant/breastfeeding, please consult your healthcare professional for advice before supplementing with red rice powder. Monitoring is advised when taking red rice with cholesterol lowering medications (statins) as effects may be additive.
Note: Because red rice yeast extract delivers a natural mix of statin-like molecules rather than a single type of isolated molecule, it is much less likely to cause the side effects that sometimes occur with the pharmaceutical versions.
However consider taking a Co Q 10 supplement when using red yeast rice as Monacolins can produce statin like results, which may deplete Co Q 10 levels.
