Chia Seeds
Tiny seeds that turn liquid into gel.
Chia seeds soak up liquid and swell into a soft gel. Sprinkle them whole or stir them into puddings, use ground chia in baking and smoothies, or grab a ready-made pot.

Is Chia Seeds right for you?
Common questions
What's the difference between whole and ground chia?
Whole seeds stay intact, so they keep their bite and swell into a gel when they sit in liquid. Ground chia is milled into a meal, which stirs through a batter or blends into a smoothie without the seedy texture. Either works in most recipes, so choose based on the texture you want.
Is chia regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Salvia hispanica is a permitted ingredient in listed medicines (item 4431 on Australia's permitted ingredients list, Schedule 1). But chia sold as a food, whether whole seeds, ground meal or a ready-made gel, falls under food standards law instead of medicine rules. We found no permitted health claim specific to chia, so there's no TGA-permitted health wording to quote for it.
