CoQ10
What does CoQ10 do?
CoQ10 is what your cells use to turn fuel into usable energy. Your body makes most of its own, which is why people reach for it as they get older, or when they take a statin.

Is CoQ10 right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Is ubiquinol better than ubiquinone?
Ubiquinol does appear better absorbed. A 2026 crossover trial in 12 adults found roughly twice the blood levels compared with ubiquinone at 240 milligrams. But a 2020 review argues those comparisons used a poorly dispersed ubiquinone, and trials comparing the two forms on actual health results are largely missing. Better absorbed doesn't automatically mean better for you.
Should you take CoQ10 if you are on a statin?
Statins lower the CoQ10 in your blood, partly because they lower the blood fats that carry it. Whether topping it up helps muscle symptoms is unsettled. One meta-analysis found no reduction in muscle pain, and a 2025 analysis of seven trials found a small reduction, though the results varied widely. Never stop a prescribed statin. Ask the doctor who prescribed it.
Does CoQ10 need to be taken with food?
Yes, and it makes a real difference. CoQ10 is fat-soluble and is best absorbed with fat in a meal, because it leaves your gut packed inside fat particles that travel through your lymph. Your body also seems to absorb only so much at once, so amounts above 100 milligrams are usually split into two or three doses across the day.
Why is 300 mg the highest CoQ10 strength sold in Australia?
Because Australia's ingredient rules set it as a legal limit. A listed medicine's maximum daily dose can't provide more than 300 milligrams of ubiquinone or ubiquinol, or of the two combined. Research doses go far higher, but those studies are run under medical supervision rather than with products you can buy off the shelf.
