Description
Egmont Mānuka Honey & Propolis Throat Drops are hard boiled drops with a rich caramel and honey flavour, fifty to a pack. They are made with sugar and glucose, UMF 15+ mānuka honey, ascorbic acid and propolis, so they are a sweet to enjoy rather than a way of eating honey. Keep a pack handy in your bag or desk drawer, and remember they contain propolis, which matters if you react to bee products.
Product Strengths
- Fifty drops to a pack.
- A rich caramel and honey flavour.
- Made with UMF 15+ mānuka honey, with ascorbic acid and propolis.
- Sugar and glucose lead the ingredient list, so enjoy these as confectionery.
- Contains propolis. The product contains propolis which can cause severe allergic reactions.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Adults who want a honey flavoured boiled sweet.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to propolis or other bee products, because the product contains propolis which can cause severe allergic reactions; infants under 12 months of age, because honey is not recommended for babies under one year; young children, because a hard boiled sweet is a choking hazard; and anyone cutting down on sugar, because sugar and glucose are the first two ingredients.
Ingredients
Sugar, Glucose, UMF 15+ Mānuka Honey, Ascorbic Acid, Propolis.
Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Suggested Use
- Let one drop dissolve slowly in the mouth.
- Follow any direction printed on the pack.
Allergens
The product contains propolis which can cause severe allergic reactions.
Honey and propolis are bee products. Neither is a declarable allergen in Australia and New Zealand, which is why the propolis advisory above exists as a separate mandatory statement.
Check the pack for full allergen information.
Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Warnings
The product contains propolis which can cause severe allergic reactions.
Honey is not recommended for infants under 12 months of age.
A hard boiled sweet is a choking hazard for young children. Supervise children eating one.

Manuka Honey
A spoonful eases a scratchy throat, and Manuka's the honey sold with a number on the jar.
That number is MGO or UMF. It measures methylglyoxal, the compound behind the antibacterial activity. Ordinary honey loses its activity as it sits around. Manuka's doesn't, and that's what you're paying for. Worth knowing the cough research used plain honey, not this.

How the forms compare
Common questions
What is the difference between MGO and UMF in manuka honey?
MGO states methylglyoxal in milligrams per kilogram. One direct chemical measurement. UMF is four tests reported as one number: methylglyoxal for potency, leptosperin to confirm the honey really is manuka, dihydroxyacetone as the precursor that predicts shelf life, and HMF to show it was not overheated. Both are meaningful; UMF simply tells you more.
Is Australian manuka honey as good as New Zealand manuka honey?
Chemically it can be. Australia holds 83 of the world's 87 Leptospermum species, and a study of 80 Australian samples found methylglyoxal up to 1,100 milligrams per kilogram, with 22 samples matching or exceeding the New Zealand comparison honey. The difference is mostly certification and naming, which has been contested between the two countries.
Can babies have manuka honey?
No. Honey of any kind, any grade and any price must not be given to infants under twelve months, because it can carry spores that a baby's gut cannot yet handle. healthdirect advises against honey for babies under 12 months, and Australian medicines containing honey must carry that restriction on the label. This includes honey stirred into food or put on a dummy.
What MGO number should I buy?
There is no evidence-based number to aim for if you are eating it, because the grading measures what the honey does in a laboratory dish, not what it does once swallowed. What the grade reliably buys you is a stronger flavour and a higher price. Buy the grade you are happy to pay for and read the testing method.
