Description
Chef's Choice Himalayan Pink Rock Salt is hand mined rock salt from the Himalayan mountains, with nothing added to it. The crystals run from light pink to deep red, the colour coming from the mineral content of the seam. It comes as a 1 kg bag of granules for refilling a grinder or salt mill, and as a 200 g disposable grinder for the table. Use it anywhere a recipe calls for salt, in the pan and at the table.
Product Strengths
- An everyday cooking and table salt, from seasoning a pan to finishing a plate.
- The 200 g grinder goes straight on the table; the 1 kg bag refills a grinder or a salt mill.
- Hand mined Himalayan pink rock salt is the only ingredient.
- Crystals range from light pink to deep red.
- Vegan friendly and kosher certified.
- Product of Pakistan, packed in Australia.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Vegan and kosher diets, and everyday cooking and table use.
Not suitable for: Anyone advised by a health professional to limit salt, without checking with them first.
Suggested Use
Season to taste while cooking, and grind over the plate to finish. The granules in the 1 kg bag are sized for a grinder or a salt mill, and dissolve well in brines, doughs and boiling water. The 200 g grinder is ready to use straight away.
Ingredients
- Himalayan pink rock salt (100%).

Himalayan Salts
What is Himalayan salt?
Himalayan salt is pink rock salt, mined from the mountains rather than made from seawater, and trace iron oxide gives it that soft pink colour. Pick a fine grind for the table or a coarse one for your grinder and pan.

Is Himalayan Salts right for you?
Common questions
Is Himalayan salt different from table salt?
Chemically, barely. Both are almost entirely sodium chloride. Himalayan salt is mined as rock salt rather than evaporated from seawater or refined, and it carries trace minerals like iron oxide, which gives it the pink colour. Those traces are too small to make any real difference nutritionally.
Is Himalayan salt regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Not under that name. "Himalayan salt" isn't listed on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) itself, but it's chemically sodium chloride, which is a permitted ingredient. In practice, you buy Himalayan salt as a food and cooking salt under food law, not as a medicine, and there's no permitted health claim for it.
