Magnesium Glycinate
What does magnesium glycinate do?
Magnesium glycinate helps your muscles relax, and it's the form that's gentle and easy on your stomach. That means you can take a proper dose in the evening.

How the forms compare
Common questions
What is the difference between magnesium glycinate and magnesium citrate?
Mostly in how your bowels handle it. Both absorb well, but citrate leaves magnesium in your gut drawing in water, which can loosen stools. Glycinate doesn't do that in the same way. So glycinate is the usual pick for a bigger evening dose, and citrate suits people who want the bowel effect.
Is magnesium glycinate the same as magnesium bisglycinate?
Yes. Bisglycinate and diglycinate are just more exact names for the same thing, one magnesium held by two glycines, and Australian labels use all three. What does change between products is whether all the magnesium is glycinate or some of it is magnesium oxide, and only the ingredients panel will tell you.
Does magnesium glycinate help you sleep?
The evidence is limited. A 2025 trial of 155 adults who slept poorly found sleep scores improved slightly more on 250 mg of magnesium a day than on a placebo over four weeks, but the difference was small. Glycine's own calming effect at these amounts is a reasonable guess, not a proven one.
