Ainsworths Bach Gentian is a hand-prepared flower essence using Dr. Edward Bach's original methods. This traditional remedy captures the energetic essence of the Gentian flower (Gentianella amarella) in a 40% alcohol base, prepared at 1:240 strength.

Ingredients

Gentian flower essence (Gentianella amarella) in brandy base (40% alcohol by volume). Each 10ml bottle contains the concentrated essence prepared at stock strength.

Allergens

Suggested Use

Place 4 drops in a glass of water and sip throughout the day as required. Alternatively, use 2 drops as part of a combination remedy. For children, professional advice is recommended.

Storage

Store in a cool, dark location. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat. The alcohol base naturally preserves the essence for extended shelf life.

Always read the label and follow the directions for use. This is a traditional remedy. If symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional. Not suitable for children under 12 years without professional guidance.

Brandy, flower essence. Alcohol 40% by volume.

Place 4 drops in a glass of water if used singly, or for a combination remedy use 2 drops of each. Sip occasionally throughout the day as required.

Gentian

What is gentian?

Gentian is the classic bitter root: the dried root of the yellow gentian plant (Gentiana lutea), known for its intensely bitter taste. It comes as dry root or powder.

Is gentian a permitted medicine ingredient in Australia?

Yes. Gentian is on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1) as GENTIAN DRY, item 2320, which allows it as an ingredient in listed medicines. We didn't find a permitted use specific to gentian, so we can't make any health claim for it. We don't stock it at Mr Vitamins at the moment.

The evidence, and its limits

The Australian rules

Gentian is on Australia's permitted ingredients list (Schedule 1, Determination No. 2 of 2026) as gentian dry, item 2320, allowed in listed medicines with no specific requirements or warning statements. Gentian powder is also a separate Schedule 1 entry, though we've only confirmed the item number for gentian dry. We found no permitted indication specific to gentian across all 17 Parts of Schedule 1. That doesn't mean it's banned. It means no therapeutic claim can be made for gentian here, and gentian may also be sold lawfully as a food or herbal bitter outside medicine rules altogether. Being allowed isn't the government endorsing any product or claim.
