Description
Mindful Foods Organic Chia Seeds are whole black chia (Salvia hispanica), certified organic and packed with nothing added. Stirred into water, milk or juice the seeds swell and take on a gel coating, which is what sets a chia pudding and what lets soaked chia stand in for egg in some baking; dry from the jar they scatter over porridge, yoghurt and salads.
Product Strengths
- Soaks into a gel in water, milk or juice, which is how chia puddings and overnight bowls set.
- Soaked chia stands in for egg in some vegan baking.
- Scatters over porridge, yoghurt, salads and toast straight from the jar, with no soaking.
- Thickens smoothies, chia jams and dressings without cooking.
- Certified organic whole black chia, and nothing else.
- Packed in reusable glass jars and compostable bags.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Vegans and vegetarians; Everyday snacking and meals.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients.
Suggested Use
For a simple chia pudding, stir the seeds through milk or a plant milk, leave them to swell in the fridge for a few hours or overnight, then stir again before serving so they do not settle into a layer. To use soaked chia in baking, stir a spoonful into water and let it stand until it thickens, then use it as you would a beaten egg in the recipe. Dry seeds can be scattered over porridge, yoghurt and salads, or blended into a smoothie to thicken it.

Chia Seeds
What are chia seeds?
Chia seeds are tiny seeds that soak up liquid and swell into a soft gel. Sprinkle them whole or stir them into puddings, use ground chia in baking and smoothies, or grab a ready-made pot.

Is Chia Seeds right for you?
Common questions
What's the difference between whole and ground chia?
Whole seeds stay intact, so they keep their bite and swell into a gel when they sit in liquid. Ground chia is milled into a meal, which stirs through a batter or blends into a smoothie without the seedy texture. Either works in most recipes, so choose based on the texture you want.
Is chia regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Salvia hispanica is a permitted ingredient in listed medicines (item 4431 on Australia's permitted ingredients list, Schedule 1). But chia sold as a food, whether whole seeds, ground meal or a ready-made gel, falls under food standards law instead of medicine rules. We found no permitted health claim specific to chia, so there's no TGA-permitted health wording to quote for it.
