What is squalene?
Squalene is an oil your body makes and stores in your skin, also found in olives and some fish. Choose capsules from shark liver oil or an olive-derived source, some blended with vitamin E.

Is Squalene right for you?
Common questions
Where does squalene come from?
Mostly from two places. Shark liver oil is the traditional source, and the rest is made from olive-derived material. Your own body also makes squalene and stores it in your skin, which is why you'll see it in skincare as well as capsules. The label tells you which source you're buying.
Is squalene approved for anything in Australia?
Squalene is a permitted ingredient in listed medicines (item 4715 on Australia's permitted ingredients list). But there's no approved health claim linked to squalene, so no listed medicine can carry an approved use for it, and this page can't tell you what it's for.
