Description
SuperFeast Schisandra is a dual extract powder made from the berry of Schisandra chinensis, concentrated at 10:1. In Chinese it is called wu wei zi, the five flavour berry, because sour, sweet, salty, bitter and pungent are all in it, with the sour and astringent notes strongest. Stir half a teaspoon into hot water with honey or maple syrup and the milk of your choice, or put it through tea, coffee, hot chocolate or a smoothie, most often first thing in the morning.
Product Strengths
- Stirs into hot water, tea, coffee, hot chocolate or a smoothie, and takes honey or maple syrup and milk well.
- A sharp, sour, aromatic morning drink rather than a mild one.
- All five flavours in one berry, sour, sweet, salty, bitter and pungent, with the sour and astringent notes strongest.
- Schisandra berry and nothing else in the bag.
- A 10:1 dual extract powder rather than a ground raw berry.
- The 250 g bag is the larger of the two sizes.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Adults adding a daily tonic herb to a hot drink.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an active peptic ulcer. Take care during pregnancy. Talk to a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner or health professional if you are unsure whether it is right for you. Keep out of reach of children

What is schisandra?
Schisandra is the five-flavour berry of traditional Chinese herbal practice. Choose whole dried berries, a single-herb product, or a practitioner blend with rhodiola. The blend is practitioner-only, so have a quick chat with our naturopaths and they'll help you.

Is Schisandra right for you?
Common questions
Is schisandra allowed in Australian supplements?
Yes. Schisandra chinensis is item 4464 in Schedule 1 of the Therapeutic Goods (Permissible Ingredients) Determination (No. 2) 2026, Australia's permitted ingredients list, which makes it a permitted ingredient in listed medicines. The record we've seen shows no listing requirement, warning statement or dose cap. Being permitted means it can be used in a listed medicine. It doesn't mean the government has approved any product or any claim made for it.
Why doesn't this page say what schisandra does?
Because so far, the evidence we've gathered for schisandra is about how it's regulated. It confirms the ingredient is permitted, but there's no matching permitted health claim or study we'd be comfortable basing a claim on. This page tells you what schisandra is rather than what it'll do, and we'd rather say that plainly than borrow a claim from somewhere else. If you'd like to know whether it suits you, our naturopaths can talk it through.
