Bovine Collagen
What is bovine collagen?
Bovine collagen comes from cattle hide and gives you collagen types I and III together. It's the collagen people choose when skin loses its spring, and it stirs into a cold drink tasting of almost nothing, so it's an easy daily habit.

Is this the right collagen for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Is bovine collagen made from hooves?
No. Hooves and horns are made of keratin, a completely different protein, and aren't used to make collagen supplements. Bovine collagen comes from hide and, less often, bone. The European guidance the TGA has adopted names hides, skins, tendons, sinews and bones as the tissues that contain collagen, and treats hide as the safer source.
Is bovine collagen halal or kosher?
Only if it's certified. 'Bovine' on a tub describes the animal, not how it was slaughtered or processed, so you can't tell halal or kosher status from that word. Look for a certifying body's mark on the pack. A handful of Australian bovine collagen products are certified, but most aren't.
Is bovine or marine collagen the better choice?
It depends on what you need. Marine collagen supplies almost entirely type I, while bovine supplies types I and III together. Bovine also suits you if a fish, crustacean or mollusc allergy rules out marine collagen.
