Aloe Vera
What is aloe vera used for?
Many people drink aloe vera juice daily for a more comfortable gut. It's made from the clear gel inside the leaf, not the bitter latex under the skin.

Is Aloe Vera right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Why does my aloe juice have a laxative warning when I bought it for my gut?
Because the rules require it. In Australia, an oral aloe listed medicine has to contain some of the latex compounds, and if it isn't sold as a laxative, its label must still say 'This product may have laxative effect'. It's a labelling rule, not a sign something's wrong. If you get tummy pain or diarrhoea, stop and check with us.
Is aloe vera safe? I read it can cause cancer.
That concern is about whole-leaf aloe extract, which the International Agency for Research on Cancer classed as a possible human carcinogen (Group 2B) after studies in rats. It doesn't apply to decolourised inner-leaf gel, which has the latex taken out. So the answer depends on which part of the leaf is in your bottle. Check the label says inner leaf or decolourised.
Will drinking aloe juice help my skin?
Don't count on it. The skin trials where people swallowed aloe used aloe sterol, a specific fraction measured in micrograms, and two 12-week trials found better skin moisture with it. That isn't what's in a juice. Aloe's best skin evidence is for gel put directly on mild burns and sunburn, where a 2024 review found faster healing.
