Marine Collagen
What is marine collagen?
Marine collagen is collagen from the sea, made from fish rather than cattle or pigs. It's almost entirely type I, the main collagen in your skin, and it's made from fish skin, scales and bones that would otherwise go to waste.

Is this the right collagen for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Can you take marine collagen if you are allergic to fish?
No. Marine collagen is made from fish skin, scales or bones, and fish is a declared allergen in Australia because reactions can be severe. Choose a beef or chicken-based collagen instead. If a reaction to fish has never been properly diagnosed, get tested before you assume a supplement is safe.
Is marine collagen better than bovine collagen?
Neither has been shown to be better. Marine is almost entirely type I, while bovine gives you types I and III, and no trial has compared them directly on any result. The real deciders are practical: a fish allergy rules out marine, and avoiding beef rules out bovine.
What is marine collagen actually made from?
Leftovers from fish processing: skin, scales, bone, fins and swim bladder, which can make up to 75 per cent of a fish's weight. That's the sustainability case for it, because these would otherwise be waste. It's also why the pack rarely says which part of the fish was used.
