Blackcurrant
What is blackcurrant?
Blackcurrant is a dark berry naturally rich in vitamin C, which your body doesn't store. Choose dried berries, juice, or New Zealand extract capsules, each standardised to a set amount of the deep purple anthocyanins.

Common questions
What's the difference between blackcurrant and blackcurrant seed oil?
They come from the same plant but they're different products. The berry gives you vitamin C and anthocyanins. The seed oil is an omega-6 oil, rich in gamma-linolenic acid, and contains neither. They're regulated differently too. The berry is a permitted active ingredient, while the seed oil is only allowed as a flavour, capped at 5% of the flavour mix.
Why do so many capsules say New Zealand blackcurrant?
Because that's where most standardised extract comes from. The berries are grown commercially around Nelson and Motueka, and the extract is standardised to a set anthocyanin content, so each capsule carries the same amount. Dried berries and juice aren't standardised, so how much they contain varies. Blackcurrant seed oil is a different product again: an omega-6 oil with no vitamin C.
