Aloe
What is aloe used for?
Many people drink aloe every day to help keep an unsettled tummy settled. It's made from the clear gel inside the aloe leaf, with the bitter latex taken out.

Is Aloe right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Will aloe juice make me go to the toilet?
It might. Aloe latex is a stimulant laxative, and even inner-leaf products can contain a little of it. Australian rules require oral aloe medicines to say 'This product may have laxative effect', even when they aren't sold as a laxative. If you get diarrhoea or tummy pain, stop and check with us. A smaller serve often suits better.
Can I drink aloe juice every day?
Many people do, but it's worth a chat before you make it a long-term habit. The required label warning for oral aloe is 'Prolonged use may cause serious bowel problems', and taking it over a long time has been linked to low potassium and kidney problems. Stick to the serve on your label, choose inner leaf, and check with us if you plan to keep going for months.
Aloe juice or aloe capsules: which should I buy?
They're different products. Juice is the inner-leaf gel you drink, and it's the form the gut research looked at. Capsules usually hold a concentrated powder or an isolated part of the plant, such as acemannan. A trial of acemannan capsules at 2 or 4 g a day found no change in immune or wellbeing measures. Which part of the leaf you take decides which evidence applies.
