True BCAA 4:1:1 is a branched chain amino acid powder from the Sydney brand True Protein, sold in 250 g pouches. The name describes the ratio: four parts leucine to one part isoleucine and one part valine, a leucine forward split rather than the more common 2:1:1. Leucine is the amino acid most closely associated with the muscle protein synthesis signal, which is why some formulators weight a blend towards it. It comes as four flavours, Blood Orange, Lemonade, Natural and Pineapple, all at the 250 g size. The Natural option is unflavoured, which makes it easy to add to another drink.
Product Strengths
- Added to a training drink or sipped through a session, when a protein feed is not practical.
- Branched chain amino acids in a 4:1:1 leucine to isoleucine to valine ratio.
- 250 g pouch in four options, including an unflavoured Natural.
- Amino acids produced by fermentation rather than from animal sources, so the powder suits vegans.
- Made by an Australian brand that manufactures in house.

BCAA
What are BCAAs used for?
BCAAs are taken around training to help reduce that deep ache a day or two after a hard session. They're three of the nine essential amino acids. Use them as an extra alongside your protein.

Is BCAA right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Should I take BCAAs or a protein powder?
If you can only have one, choose protein powder. BCAAs give you three of the nine essential amino acids, so they're an incomplete protein by design. In a 12-month trial in 150 people, 30 grams of BCAA a day gave no advantage over the same amount of whey on any measure.
When should I take BCAAs. Before or after training?
Both, and starting before matters more than you'd think. Neither review found an effect when BCAAs were taken only after the hard session, and one analysis found that starting earlier before the session gave bigger effects. So a scoop taken only after your workout isn't what was tested.
Are BCAAs the same as EAAs?
No. EAA means all nine essential amino acids, while BCAA means three of them: leucine, isoleucine and valine. On paper, EAAs are the more complete option, and they're overtaking BCAAs in Australian searches, but we couldn't find a trial comparing the two head to head.
