Description
Ombar Coco Almond is a 70g bar of dark chocolate with a minimum of 60% cocoa solids and activated almonds running through it for crunch. The base is unroasted cacao and coconut sugar, and creamed coconut softens it into something closer to a milk bar in texture. It is certified organic to the Organic Food Federation, GB-ORG-04, and fair trade certified to the Fair for Life standard.
Product Strengths
- A 70g bar to break up and share, or to keep in the cupboard for a square after dinner.
- Minimum 60% cocoa solids, built on unroasted cacao and coconut sugar.
- Activated almonds (13%) for crunch, with creamed coconut (11%) for a softer, creamier texture.
- Certified organic to the Organic Food Federation, GB-ORG-04, as printed on the pack.
- Fair trade certified to the Fair for Life standard.
- Contains almonds.
Suitable For / Not Suitable For
Suitable for: Anyone after a dark chocolate with almonds in it.
Not suitable for: Anyone with an allergy to the listed ingredients; anyone with a tree nut allergy, because the bar contains almonds; and anyone with a peanut or other nut allergy, because the bar may contain peanuts and other nuts, and almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts and peanuts are handled in the factory where it is made.
Ingredients
Allergen declaration for this bar:
Unroasted Cacao*, Coconut Sugar*, Activated Almonds* (13%), Creamed Coconut* (11%), Cocoa Butter*, Vanilla Extract*. Ingredients marked with an asterisk are certified organic.
Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Suggested Use
- Break off a square or two at a time; the 70g bar is moulded to snap along its lines.
- It eats well with coffee, black tea or a glass of red.
- Chop it into biscuits, brownies or a pan of hot milk alternative for a hot chocolate.
- Let it come up to room temperature before you eat it if it has been in the fridge, because cold chocolate tastes flat.
Allergens
Contains almonds, which are a tree nut.
Ombar's allergen statement reads: "May contain peanuts and other nuts."
Ombar works with almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts and peanuts in its factory, so there is a risk that any of its bars may contain peanuts and other nuts.
No statement is published about milk, egg, soy, fish, crustacean, sesame or sulphites, so read the pack if you react to any of those.
Always review label for full list of ingredients.
Storage
Store the bar in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight, and keep it away from anything strongly scented, because chocolate picks up smells. Chocolate kept warm can bloom and go pale or streaky on the surface. That is cocoa butter coming out of solution rather than spoilage, and the bar is still good to eat.
Disclaimer
Always read the label and follow the directions for use. This information is a guide only, and the pack is the authority on ingredients, nutrition and allergens.

Is Almonds right for you?
Common questions
What's the difference between almond meal and almond flour?
Meal is usually ground with the skins left on, so it's coarser and flecked brown. Flour is normally made from blanched almonds with the skins removed, so it's finer and paler. Recipes often use the names interchangeably, and either works in most baking. Check the pack if the colour or texture of what you're making matters to you.
Are almonds regulated as a medicine in Australia?
Almond is on the permitted ingredients list for listed medicines (item 476), where it's used as an inactive ingredient (excipient). But almonds sold as food, whether whole or as meal, butter, oil or milk, come under food standards law instead, not medicine rules. We couldn't find a permitted health claim specific to almonds.
