Holy Basil (Tulsi)

Is Holy Basil (Tulsi) right for you?
Common questions
Is holy basil the same as tulsi?
Yes. Holy basil and tulsi are common names for the same plant, known by its botanical name, Ocimum tenuiflorum. It's traditionally grown across South Asia and used in Ayurvedic practice, usually as a tea, dried leaf or extract.
Is holy basil regulated as a medicine in Australia?
It can be. Ocimum tenuiflorum is item 3534 on Australia's permitted ingredients list, allowed with conditions. Those conditions cover concentrated oils or distillates high in eugenol, which need child-resistant packaging and warning labels. There's no permitted health claim for it, and holy basil isn't currently one of our own product lines.
