What does vitamin B6 do?
Vitamin B6 helps your body make brain chemicals like serotonin. When PMS leaves you moody, irritable or tired before your period, B6 is the vitamin the trials keep coming back to.

Is Vitamin B6 right for you?
How the forms compare
Common questions
Can you take too much vitamin B6?
Yes. It's the exception to the idea that water-soluble vitamins are always safe. Too much B6 can damage the nerves that carry feeling in your hands and feet (peripheral neuropathy), and the TGA had 250 Australian reports of it as of 31 October 2025. The adult Upper Level is 50 mg a day from all sources, and symptoms can take years to appear.
Is P5P better than ordinary vitamin B6?
Not on the human evidence so far. P5P is the active form, so it skips a conversion step, and it looked less harmful to nerve cells in laboratory tests. But no human trial shows it works better, and almost every positive B6 trial used pyridoxine hydrochloride. Legally it's treated the same, with the same limits and warning.
Why does my magnesium have a nerve warning on it?
Because it contains more than 10 mg of vitamin B6 in a daily dose. Australian rules require a warning on any listed medicine above that level, telling you to stop taking it and see your healthcare practitioner if you get tingling, burning or numbness. It's a reminder to add up the B6 across everything you take.
